Tobramycin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Lactobacillus Gasseri interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus gasseri with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. gasseri.
Lactobacillus gasseri preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. gasseri preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the thing to keep in mind: this isn't about the probiotic changing how your tobramycin works. It's the reverse. Tobramycin is an antibiotic that kills bacteria, and the Lactobacillus gasseri in a probiotic supplement is itself live bacteria. So if the two cross paths, the antibiotic may simply kill off a good chunk of those helpful organisms before they can do anything useful. In other words, you'd mostly be wasting the probiotic.

This is a theoretical concern based on how these products work, not a dangerous reaction, and it won't hurt you. A simple fix is to space them out by at least a couple of hours. Tobramycin injection is often given in a hospital setting, so check with your pharmacist or doctor about the best timing for your situation.

Tobramycin Injection is used to treat serious and life-threatening bacterial infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It is approved for adults and children for infections of the blood (septicemia), lungs and airways, brain and spinal cord (meningitis), abdomen, skin, bones, and urinary tract.

Because antibiotic resistance is a growing concern, Tobramycin Injection should only be used when there is a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection. Your care team will use culture and lab results to confirm it is the right choice.
