What’s inside
Partial disclosure
Solgar Flaxseed Oil 1250 mg is a softgel capsule containing 7 active ingredients: organic flaxseed oil and several fatty acids including oleic acid, linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, polyunsaturated fat, and other fatty acids. The product also contains two inactive ingredients — gelatin and vegetable glycerin — which serve as the capsule material and binder.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence we hold shows oleic acid (one of this product's components) is possibly effective for high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia) and heart disease risk (coronary heart disease). For the other fatty acids in this product, we don't have effectiveness ratings on file.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether flaxseed oil fits your health goals.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
Oleic acid is generally recognized as safe in the amounts found in everyday foods like olive oil. However, concentrated supplement doses of oleic acid haven't been well studied, so caution applies if you're pregnant or breastfeeding — there isn't enough data to know either way.
If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing, discuss this product with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take antidiabetes drugs (blood sugar medications). The oleic acid in this flaxseed oil may increase how strongly these medications work, potentially lowering your blood sugar more than intended.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glancePartially disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.
Solgar Flaxseed Oil may be worth considering if you're interested in heart and cholesterol support, since oleic acid shows promise in those areas. If you take any blood sugar medication, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first — the oleic acid here could strengthen that drug's effect.
Always run your exact medications through the interaction checker on this page before you start.

organic Flaxseed Oil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, using flaxseed oil in combination with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding.
Small clinical studies show that consuming flaxseed oil might decrease platelet aggregation and increase bleeding time.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining flaxseed oil with other antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of hypotension.
Some clinical evidence suggests that long-term consumption of flaxseed oil can modestly lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure, while other clinical research shows no effect.
Ezetimibe (Zetia)
Concomitant use of flaxseed oil and ezetimibe reduces the absorption of alpha-linolenic acid from flaxseed oil.
In one clinical study, concomitant consumption of ezetimibe 10 mg daily with flaxseed oil 2 grams providing 1 gram of alpha-linolenic acid daily blocked the absorption of alpha-linolenic acid, resulting in an overall reduction in alpha-linolenic plasma levels from baseline.
