  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: High potency probiotic for digestive health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Clostridioides difficile infection, Constipation, Diarrhea, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Lactose intolerance — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Bifidobacterium Bifidum is rated "Possibly Effective" for Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Bifidobacterium Bifidum is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Constipation, Radiation-induced diarrhea, Ulcerative colitis, and more.
  • Also on file: Bifidobacterium Longum is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea.

Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and respiratory tract infections. Bifidobacterium longum has been studied for age-related cognitive decline, hay fever, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, anxiety, asthma, and athletic performance, but the evidence for those uses is insufficient to rate it.

The bottom line: there's some promise for gut and respiratory health with the bifidum, but we don't have solid evidence yet for most other conditions.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?

  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 2 of 2.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 2 of 2.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Both bacteria are generally well tolerated in healthy people. However, if you're seriously ill or have a weakened immune system, talk to your doctor first — the data are limited and caution is advised.

Rare side effects with these probiotics include abdominal discomfort, bloating, flatulence, constipation, and in very rare cases, a dry cough. There have been extremely rare reports of bacterial bloodstream infection (bacteremia) in critically ill or preterm infants, though this is not a typical concern for otherwise healthy adults.

Data on use while breastfeeding are limited, so check with your doctor or pharmacist first if you're nursing.
