L. acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. That said, because it contains live microorganisms, there's a theoretical concern it could cause infection in certain people — cases of bacteremia, sepsis, abscess, endocarditis, and meningitis have been reported, though most are thought to happen when bacteria from the gut naturally move elsewhere in the body in people with existing conditions.

When taken by mouth alongside other probiotics, some people have had mild gastrointestinal side effects like stomach discomfort, bloating, gas, or diarrhea, but these are uncommon. One trial reported a rash and itching with a probiotic combination, though it wasn't clear if L. acidophilus was the cause.

Friendly Flora Probiotic is a comprehensive blend of five established, beneficial probiotic strains, delivering an exceptional 10 Billion Colony Forming Units (CFU) per capsule.
