What’s inside
Full disclosure
This supplement contains one active ingredient: Vitamin B12 at 1,500 micrograms per capsule. The capsule itself is made with microcrystalline cellulose and hypromellose (inactive ingredients that help form and hold the capsule together).
Does it work?
Strong evidence
B12 is effective for treating Imerslund-Grasbeck disease and vitamin B12 deficiency — both conditions where your body can't absorb or maintain adequate B12 on its own. It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning and possibly effective for canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles).
If you're taking this to correct a documented B12 deficiency, the evidence supports its use.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin B12 is generally well tolerated. Your body eliminates excess B12 in the urine, so there's no established upper limit for how much you can take.
By mouth, B12 causes injection site reactions only if given as a shot; oral forms rarely cause side effects. Allergic reactions like rash or itching are very uncommon but possible, and have been reported in people with a cobalt allergy (since B12 contains cobalt).
Rarely, correcting severe B12 deficiency can cause a serious drop in potassium levels — your doctor will monitor this if you have that condition. B12 is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding at recommended amounts; follow your provider's guidance.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage) for diabetes, let us know before you start — metformin can lower B12 levels, so this supplement may help, but we want to coordinate care. No other medication interactions are documented for B12 in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This supplement is a straightforward way to correct or prevent B12 deficiency, which can develop from poor diet, digestive issues, or certain medications. If you take metformin for diabetes, mention this supplement to your pharmacist so we can keep an eye on your B12 levels.
It's safe and well tolerated for most people, and your body handles the dose well.
