What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 3 active ingredients.
  • “Proprietary Probiotic Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (17 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

This product contains three active probiotic strains: Lactobacillus rhamnosus LR-32, Lactobacillus plantarum LP-115, and HOWARU Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM. Probiotics are beneficial live bacteria meant to support digestive and vaginal health.

The softgels also contain inactive ingredients—palm oil, fish gelatin, glycerin, soy lecithin, and pectin—that help deliver and protect the active probiotics.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: vaginal and urinary health support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Bacterial vaginosis, Urinary tract infections (UTIs), Vaginal candidiasis, vulvovaginal health, pelvic health.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Bacterial vaginosis (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Urinary tract infections (UTIs), Vaginal candidiasis.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. The evidence for acute respiratory distress syndrome isn't strong enough to rate, and it appears possibly ineffective for atopic disease (allergic conditions).

We don't have effectiveness ratings on file for the other two probiotic strains in this product.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Minor gastrointestinal side effects like gas, bloating, abdominal pain, and diarrhea can occur when taking it with other probiotics, but these are uncommon.

Rarely, the live bacteria can cause serious infections in people with weakened immune systems; most documented cases involved bacteria that likely came from elsewhere in the body. Since data are limited, check with your doctor before starting this supplement, especially if you have a compromised immune system or serious illness.

Pregnancy safety is rated as possibly safe, but we don't have enough information on lactation, so talk with your healthcare provider if you're breastfeeding.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Lactobacillus Acidophilus.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 182 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Antibiotic drugs are the main concern—they can kill the live organisms in this probiotic, making it less effective. Time them apart from this supplement, and talk with your pharmacist about the best way to space them.

Since we couldn't check the other two probiotic strains in our data, use the medication checker below to be sure.

Antibiotic Drugs

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.

Probiotic Pearls Women's by Nature's Way: Common Questions

Does Probiotic Pearls Women's by Nature's Way interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Probiotic Pearls Women's has a known interaction with 182 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Probiotic Pearls Women's contains 3 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this while I'm on antibiotics?
Antibiotics can kill the live bacteria in this probiotic, so it may not work as well. You'll want to separate them—take the antibiotic and the probiotic at different times of day. Ask your pharmacist for the best timing for your specific antibiotic.
Does Lactobacillus acidophilus really help with IBS or yeast infections?
The evidence says it's possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome and bacterial vaginosis. That means some research supports it, but we don't have rock-solid proof yet. Results vary from person to person.
What are the side effects?
Most people tolerate it well. Gas, bloating, and stomach discomfort can happen, especially when combined with other probiotics, but these are uncommon. Serious infections are very rare and mainly occur in people with weakened immune systems.
Is it safe to take while pregnant?
Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated as possibly safe in pregnancy, but we don't have enough safety data to be certain. Talk with your doctor about whether it's right for you during pregnancy.
What's in the capsule besides the probiotics?
The softgel contains palm oil, fish gelatin, glycerin, soy lecithin, and pectin—these are inactive ingredients that protect and deliver the live bacteria. If you have allergies to any of these, check the label.
Will this help if I have atopic disease or eczema?
The research suggests Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly ineffective for atopic disease, so it may not be the right choice for allergic conditions like eczema.
