What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 at 250 micrograms per tablet. B12 is an essential vitamin your body needs to make red blood cells, support nerve function, and produce DNA.
The inactive ingredients are dicalcium phosphate, vegetable cellulose, stearic acid, silica, and vegetable magnesium stearate—these help form and preserve the tablet.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
B12 is effective for treating vitamin B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare genetic disorder that prevents B12 absorption). The evidence also supports its use for cyanide poisoning.
There's some evidence it may help with canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), though the data for those uses is less complete.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin B12 is very well tolerated, with no upper limit set because your body excretes any excess in urine. Oral B12 rarely causes problems, though allergic reactions like rash or itching are possible (particularly in people with a cobalt allergy).
B12 is safe and actually needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding at normal recommended amounts—follow your provider's guidance on dosing.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage) or any diabetes medication similar to it, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting—metformin can interfere with how your body absorbs B12, and you may need to monitor your levels.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a straightforward, single-ingredient B12 supplement best suited for people with low B12 levels or certain absorption disorders. If you take metformin for diabetes, mention this supplement to your doctor or pharmacist so they can monitor your B12 status.
For most people, B12 is well-tolerated and low-risk.
