HLC Intensive Powder Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Pharmax
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking HLC Intensive Powder against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of HLC Intensive Powder by Pharmax
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
HLC Intensive Powder contains four active probiotic strains: two forms of Lactobacillus acidophilus (CUL-60 and CUL-21), Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis (CUL-34), and Bifidobacterium bifidum (CUL-20). These are live, beneficial bacteria intended to support gut health.
The powder also contains maltodextrin as an inactive ingredient to help preserve and mix the product.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these probiotics is mixed and varies by condition. Both Lactobacillus acidophilus strains and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis are possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and L. acidophilus is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Helicobacter pylori infection, and bacterial vaginosis.
B. animalis subsp. lactis is also possibly effective for respiratory tract infections and constipation. B. bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections.
For other conditions — such as hay fever, anxiety, and Alzheimer disease — the evidence is not yet established in our data. Talk with your doctor about whether this product is right for your specific situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated by most healthy adults and children when taken as directed. Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain, or diarrhea can occur but are uncommon.
In rare cases, probiotics have been associated with serious infections in people with severely weakened immune systems. Since these are live organisms, there's a small theoretical risk of infection in vulnerable patients.
If you have a weakened immune system, are critically ill, or have any health concerns, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting. For pregnancy, Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly safe, and the same applies to Bifidobacterium bifidum and B. animalis subsp. lactis — though data on lactation are not on file for these ingredients.
If you're pregnant or breastfeeding and want to use this product, discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start HLC Intensive Powder, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any antibiotic drugs (such as penicillins, cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones, macrolides, or others). These are the only drug type with documented interactions — Moderate severity across all four probiotic strains — and spacing out doses by a few hours will help protect the probiotics' effectiveness.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
HLC Intensive Powder is a multi-strain probiotic aimed at digestive and immune support, with the strongest evidence for IBS and antibiotic-associated diarrhea. The main thing to watch: separate doses of antibiotics from this powder by several hours so the live bacteria aren't killed.
If you have a compromised immune system or serious illness, check with your doctor first. Talk it over with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you take antibiotics regularly.

HLC Intensive Powder by Pharmax Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
HLC Intensive Powder by Pharmax contains four live probiotic ingredients — Lactobacillus acidophilus (two strains), Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, and Bifidobacterium bifidum — and all of them interact with antibiotic drugs.
The concern is the same across all four: antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the powder, potentially reducing how well the probiotics work. These are Moderate-severity interactions.
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
To protect the probiotics' effectiveness, space out your antibiotic doses and this powder by at least two to three hours — ideally more if your doctor agrees. Your doctor or pharmacist can help you pick the best timing based on your specific antibiotic.
No interactions are documented in our data for any other drug types with these ingredients. That said, absence of documented interactions is not a guarantee none exist.
Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact medications, and discuss the timing plan with your own doctor or pharmacist before you start.
