HMF Intensive Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Genestra Brands
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking HMF Intensive against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of HMF Intensive by Genestra Brands
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
HMF Intensive contains three active probiotic strains: Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis (CUL-34), Bifidobacterium bifidum (CUL-20), and Lactobacillus acidophilus (CUL-60 & CUL-21). These are live beneficial bacteria meant to support your gut health.
The capsule also contains two inactive ingredients — cellulose and hypromellose — which are fillers and the capsule material itself.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for these three probiotics is mixed. All three strains show possibly effective evidence for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Bifidobacterium animalis lactis and Lactobacillus acidophilus are also possibly effective for respiratory tract infections, while Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Helicobacter pylori infection, and bacterial vaginosis. Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for respiratory infections as well.
However, for conditions like allergic rhinitis (hay fever), Alzheimer disease, and generalized anxiety disorder, the evidence for these strains is insufficient to rate them.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These three probiotics are generally well tolerated by healthy adults and children when taken as directed. The most common side effect reported is diarrhea, and some people experience bloating or flatulence, abdominal pain, stomach upset, or burping — though these are uncommon.
Rarely, rash has been reported in trials, though it's unclear whether the probiotic, another ingredient in the combination, or something unrelated caused it. One rare but serious concern exists: in very ill patients, probiotics can theoretically cause infection, though this is uncommon and more likely in people with weakened immune systems.
Bifidobacterium bifidum is rated possibly safe in pregnancy, and both B. bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus are rated possibly safe during lactation — talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take any antibiotic drugs — oral antibiotics, topical, or injected — separate them from this product by several hours. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how far apart to space the doses so the antibiotic doesn't kill the probiotics and the probiotics don't interfere with your antibiotic.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
HMF Intensive may help with IBS and some respiratory or digestive issues, but you need to separate doses from any antibiotic by several hours to avoid killing off the probiotics. If you have a weakened immune system or are pregnant or breastfeeding, discuss this product with your doctor or pharmacist first.

HMF Intensive by Genestra Brands Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
HMF Intensive by Genestra Brands contains three live probiotic strains — Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Lactobacillus acidophilus — and all three interact with antibiotic drugs.
The most serious interaction is Moderate in severity: taking any of these probiotics while on antibiotics may reduce how well the probiotics work, because antibiotics can kill off the live organisms in the supplement.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The interaction is the same across all three active ingredients and affects antibiotic drugs. Since these probiotics contain living microorganisms, taking them at the same time as an antibiotic dose can wipe out a significant portion of the beneficial bacteria you're trying to add.
The fix is straightforward: separate when you take them — ask your doctor or pharmacist how many hours apart is best for your specific antibiotic.
Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact antibiotics, or confirm the timing with your own pharmacist or doctor before you start.
