HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Hops Mint Flavor by TerraVita
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: hops glycerite liquid extract. Hops is a plant used traditionally to support relaxation and sleep, though the evidence in our data is not yet established for any condition.
The extract is prepared as a glycerite — a liquid form that uses glycerin as the base — and flavored with mint.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold does not establish that hops is effective for age-related cognitive decline, sexual dysfunction, anxiety, ADHD, indigestion (dyspepsia), or insomnia. Each of these conditions carries a rating of insufficient reliable evidence, meaning studies to date are either too small, too few, or inconclusive to draw firm conclusions.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Hops is generally well tolerated in the short term, though drowsiness is a known side effect — which is why mixing it with sedative medications requires caution. Long-term safety hasn't been well studied.
The product should be avoided during pregnancy because there isn't enough safety information. It should also be avoided while breastfeeding for the same reason.
Occupational exposure to hops dust is linked to chronic cough and bronchitis, and allergic skin reactions have been reported from contact with fresh hops plants.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take CNS depressants (sleep aids, anxiety drugs, muscle relaxants) — the risk is Moderate sedation. Also flag any hormone replacement therapy or estrogen-containing medications.
If you take medications broken down through CYP3A4 or CYP1A2 pathways, mention hops so your provider can weigh whether a Minor interaction matters for your situation.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Hops extract may be worth considering if you're interested in its traditional use for relaxation, but the evidence doesn't confirm it works for any specific condition yet. Because it interacts with sedatives, hormones, and many other drugs, check your medications before you start.
If you take CNS depressants, estrogens, or any other regular prescription, talk with your doctor or pharmacist first to make sure it's safe for you.

Hops Mint Flavor by TerraVita Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Hops Mint Flavor by TerraVita contains hops extract, which does interact with certain medications.
The most serious concern is with CNS depressants (sedatives, sleep aids, anxiety medications) — hops can add to their drowsiness effect at a Moderate level. The product also has Moderate interactions with estrogens, including hormone replacement therapy, because hops constituents may compete for the same receptors; though most hops extracts contain only small amounts of these active parts.
Additionally, hops has Minor interactions with a large number of medications metabolized through CYP3A4 and CYP1A2 enzyme pathways — theoretically it could shift how your body breaks these drugs down, though human studies suggest the effect may not be clinically meaningful.

Altogether, these interactions span 864 individual medications. Because the total is substantial and the product affects multiple drug pathways, it's important you check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before starting hops.

For each ingredient in Hops Mint Flavor with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Hops Glycerite Liquid Extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of hops with sedative drugs might cause additive sedation.
Some animal research shows that hops has sedative effects.
Estrogens
Theoretically, concomitant use of large amounts of hops might interfere with hormone replacement therapy due to competition for estrogen receptors.
In vitro research suggests that certain hops constituents can competitively bind to estrogen receptors. However, most hops extracts contain very small amounts of these constituents.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Hops extract does not seem to affect the metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that flavonoid constituents of hops inhibit CYP1A2 enzyme activity. However, a pharmacokinetic study in healthy postmenopausal patients shows that taking a standardized extract of spent hops containing prenylated phenols, as 59.5 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, does not affect levels of caffeine, a CYP1A2 probe substrate.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, hops extract might alter metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates; however, this effect may not be clinically significant.
Animal research suggests that specific constituents of hops, called lupulones, can induce hepatic CYP3A4 enzyme activity. However, a pharmacokinetic study in healthy postmenopausal patients with normal metabolism shows that taking a standardized extract of spent hops containing prenylated phenols, as 59.5 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, decreases the concentration of alprazolam, a CYP3A4 probe substrate, by 7.6%. This reduction is unlikely to be clinically relevant.
