Here's the simple version: the oxycodone half of Percocet is an opioid that already makes many people sleepy and a little foggy. Hops, when taken as a supplement for sleep or calm, may add its own mild drowsy effect on top of that. So the worry isn't that hops changes how your body breaks down the medicine, it's that the two relaxing effects could stack and leave you more drowsy than you expect.

I'll be honest with you, this concern is mostly theoretical, based on pharmacology and some animal studies, not strong human proof. Still, with an opioid in the mix, I'd play it safe. If you feel extra sleepy, dizzy, or slowed down, that's a sign to check in with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them regularly.

Acetaminophen, Oxycodone also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES.

Hops extract does not seem to affect the metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that flavonoid constituents of hops inhibit CYP1A2 enzyme activity. However, a pharmacokinetic study in healthy postmenopausal patients shows that taking a standardized extract of spent hops containing prenylated phenols, as 59.5 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, does not affect levels of caffeine, a CYP1A2 probe substrate.

Here's the good news on combining hops with your Percocet (acetaminophen and oxycodone): this particular interaction is mostly theoretical and not something I'd lose sleep over. In a test tube, some hops flavonoids appear to slow down a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. But when researchers actually gave people standardized hops extract, it didn't change how their bodies handled a CYP1A2 test drug. So the lab signal didn't pan out in real life.

On top of that, oxycodone and acetaminophen aren't mainly cleared by CYP1A2 anyway, so this pathway isn't a big player for your medication. The thing I'd watch more closely is simple drowsiness, since both hops and oxycodone can make you sleepy. If you're taking both, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor just so they can keep an eye on that.

Hops are most often used for sleep and mild anxiety, frequently combined with valerian, but the human evidence is limited and not very strong.
