by GNC Mega Men
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Joint Health against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Joint Health by GNC Mega Men
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product has two active ingredients. The first is catechu, an extract from Acacia catechu wood and bark.
The second is Baikal skullcap, an extract from the Chinese Scutellaria baicalensis root. Both are herbal extracts traditionally used for joint and general health support.
The remaining ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, gelatin, hydroxypropylcellulose, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide — are inactive ingredients (fillers, binders, and capsule material) that hold the product together.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for catechu in exercise-induced muscle soreness and osteoarthritis is insufficient to rate — we don't have reliable data showing it works for these uses. Similarly, Baikal skullcap has been studied for allergic rhinitis, anxiety, atherosclerosis, ADHD, prostate cancer, and headache, but the evidence for each is rated insufficient — we lack reliable data to confirm benefit for any of them.
If you're considering this product for joint health specifically, the data we hold doesn't establish that either ingredient is effective for that purpose.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Catechu is likely fine for short-term use in food-like amounts, but safety data on concentrated supplements are limited in humans. Baikal skullcap is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth; the most common side effects are gastrointestinal (abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting) and skin reactions (rash, itching).
Rare serious adverse effects including liver damage and a lung condition called hypersensitivity pneumonitis have been reported with a specific combination product containing both ingredients — though this was in a product called Limbrel at higher doses, it signals caution with these extracts. During pregnancy, safety data for both ingredients are insufficient — the product should be avoided.
While breastfeeding, catechu may be okay, but Baikal skullcap safety is unknown and should be avoided.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking GNC Mega Men Joint Health, double-check your medications with your pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs), blood pressure medications, diabetes drugs, CYP1A2 or CYP2C19 substrates (including theophylline), thyroid or antithyroid drugs, estrogen products, lithium, or immunosuppressants. Altogether, these interactions span 1,026 individual medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Joint Health by GNC Mega Men Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
GNC Mega Men Joint Health contains two active ingredients, both of which have documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern involves blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs) — Baikal skullcap may increase bleeding risk when combined with these medications, a Moderate-severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Both ingredients interact with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives). Catechu and Baikal skullcap can each lower blood pressure, so taking either with blood pressure drugs could push your pressure too low.
Additionally, both ingredients affect how your liver processes certain drugs: catechu may increase levels of theophylline and other CYP1A2 substrates (Moderate), while Baikal skullcap affects both CYP1A2 and CYP2C19 substrates (Moderate for both). Baikal skullcap also carries Moderate interactions with diabetes medications, thyroid drugs, antithyroid drugs, estrogen products, and lithium — it may enhance blood sugar lowering, interfere with thyroid management, affect hormone therapy, and raise lithium levels.
Catechu may interfere with immunosuppressant drugs (Moderate).
Alternately, there is one ingredient — the blend of catechu and Baikal skullcap listed as a group container — whose individual interaction data we have already covered under its separate components. Altogether, these interactions span 1,026 individual medications.
Run your exact medications through the checker on this page before you start.

For each ingredient in Joint Health with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Acacia catechu wood & bark extract and Chinese Skullcap root extract
Amoxicillin (Amoxil, Trimox)
Gum arabic can reduce the absorption of amoxicillin.
A small study in healthy volunteers shows that taking amoxicillin and gum arabic concurrently significantly reduces the absorption of amoxicillin. Separate doses of amoxicillin from gum arabic by at least 2 hours.
Oral Drugs
Theoretically, gum arabic can alter the absorption of oral drugs due to its fiber content.
Gum arabic has been used as a suspending osmotic agent in drug formulations. It might improve bioavailability of water-insoluble drugs like naproxen, but reduce absorption of polar drugs like amoxicillin. To avoid changes in absorption, take gum arabic 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
