Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Aripiprazole Lauroxil
Aripiprazole Lauroxil falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Baikal Skullcap interacts with.
In vitro and animal research suggests that Baikal skullcap binds to GABA-A receptors and causes sedation. Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects when used concomitantly with drugs with sedative properties. Preliminary clinical research has not identified clinically relevant sedation after use of Baikal skullcap; however, a thorough evaluation of safety outcomes has not been conducted.
Interaction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans..
Here's the simple version: Aristada (aripiprazole lauroxil) is a long-acting injection that helps steady mood and thinking. Baikal skullcap has been shown in lab and animal studies to gently nudge GABA-A receptors in the brain, which can have a calming, sedating effect. Stacking something sedating on top of an antipsychotic could, in theory, add up to more drowsiness, grogginess, or feeling foggy and slowed down.
That said, I want to keep this in perspective. This is a theoretical, minor concern based mostly on lab work, and early human studies haven't actually shown meaningful sedation from the herb. So it's unlikely to be a big deal, but since your injection is treating a serious condition, please run any skullcap supplement by your pharmacist or prescriber first.
