In vitro and animal research suggests that Baikal skullcap binds to GABA-A receptors and causes sedation. Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects when used concomitantly with drugs with sedative properties. Preliminary clinical research has not identified clinically relevant sedation after use of Baikal skullcap; however, a thorough evaluation of safety outcomes has not been conducted.

Here's the gist with Onfi (clobazam) and Baikal skullcap. Clobazam is a benzodiazepine that calms the brain by acting on GABA, the body's main 'slow down' signal. Lab and animal studies hint that Baikal skullcap may gently nudge those same GABA receptors. So in theory, stacking the two could add up to a little extra sedation, meaning more drowsiness, dizziness, or feeling foggy than usual.

I'll be honest though, this is a minor and unlikely concern. The evidence is only test-tube and animal data, and early human research hasn't shown real-world sedation from the herb. Still, since clobazam itself is sedating, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding the supplement, especially if you already feel sleepy on your dose. Don't change anything on your own.

Clobazam is used as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment for seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a severe form of childhood-onset epilepsy. It is approved for patients 2 years of age and older.

This indication applies to all available forms: Sympazan (dissolving oral film), Onfi (tablets and oral suspension), and generic clobazam tablets and oral suspension.
