Oxymorphone falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Baikal Skullcap interacts with.

Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects when used concomitantly with drugs with sedative properties.
In vitro and animal research suggests that Baikal skullcap binds to GABA-A receptors and causes sedation. Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects when used concomitantly with drugs with sedative properties. Preliminary clinical research has not identified clinically relevant sedation after use of Baikal skullcap; however, a thorough evaluation of safety outcomes has not been conducted.

Here's the gist with Opana (oxymorphone) and Baikal skullcap. This isn't about one changing how the other is broken down. Instead, it's about two things that can both make you drowsy stacking on top of each other. Oxymorphone is a strong opioid pain reliever that already causes sleepiness, slowed breathing, dizziness, and that foggy feeling. In lab and animal studies, skullcap seems to gently nudge the same calming brain receptors (GABA-A), so in theory the sedation could add up.

That said, this is a weak, theoretical concern. Human studies haven't actually shown meaningful sedation from skullcap. Still, with a potent opioid, I'd play it safe and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them. Don't change your oxymorphone on your own.

What Is Oxymorphone Used For?

Brand names: Numorphan, Opana, Opana ER, Opana Injection

Oxymorphone Hydrochloride Tablets (immediate-release) are used to treat acute pain severe enough to require an opioid when other pain treatments are not enough. Oxymorphone Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets are used to manage severe, persistent pain that needs to be treated with a daily opioid over an extended period and when other options are inadequate.

Both forms are reserved for situations where non-opioid medicines or other approaches have not worked well enough. Oxymorphone Hydrochloride Extended-Release Tablets are not meant to be taken on an as-needed basis — they are for ongoing, around-the-clock pain management only.
