Modafinil falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Baikal Skullcap interacts with.

Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might increase levels of drugs transported by P-glycoprotein.
In vitro and animal research suggests that baicalein, oroxylin A, and wogonin, constituents of Baikal skullcap, can inhibit P-glycoprotein. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with Baikal skullcap and modafinil (Provigil). Your body uses a kind of pump called P-glycoprotein to move certain drugs around and help clear them. In lab dishes and animal studies, some compounds in this herb (like baicalein and wogonin) seem to slow that pump down. In theory, that could let a little more modafinil hang around in your system, which might nudge up its usual effects, things like jitteriness, headache, trouble sleeping, a faster heartbeat, or feeling on edge.

I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical, lab-based concern, and it hasn't actually been seen in people. Modafinil works on its own (it isn't a prodrug that needs activating), so the direction would simply be slightly stronger effects, not weaker ones. The risk looks small, but check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them.

What Is Modafinil Used For?

Brand names: Provigil, Sparlon, Alertec

Modafinil (also sold as Provigil) is used to improve wakefulness in adults who experience excessive sleepiness due to narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), or shift work disorder (SWD).

In OSA, modafinil treats the sleepiness — not the underlying airway obstruction itself. It is used alongside standard treatments such as CPAP (a breathing device worn during sleep), not as a replacement for them. If CPAP is appropriate for you, your doctor will want you to use it consistently even while taking modafinil.
