ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Candesartan Cilexetil
Candesartan Cilexetil falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Baikal Skullcap interacts with.
Animal research suggests that baicalein, a constituent of Baikal skullcap, might lower blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: candesartan already does a good job lowering your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Baikal skullcap contains a compound called baicalein, and in animal studies it appeared to nudge blood pressure down too. Put the two together and they could, in theory, add up and push your numbers lower than intended.
If that happened, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, unusually tired, or woozy when you stand up quickly. I want to be honest, though: this concern comes from lab and animal research, not solid human studies, so it's more of a maybe than a sure thing. Candesartan is not a prodrug, so this isn't about how it's broken down, it's simply two things lowering pressure at once. If you'd like to try the herb, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your readings.

- Anxiety and sleep
- Immune support
- Respiratory infections
Baikal skullcap is a traditional Chinese herb (Huang Qin) used for inflammation, allergies, and infections, with active compounds like baicalin and baicalein studied mostly in the lab. Human evidence remains limited, so it should not replace proven treatments. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
About Candesartan
What Is Candesartan Used For?
Brand names: Atacand, Amias
Candesartan lowers blood pressure in adults and in children 1 to under 17 years old. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
It is also used to treat heart failure (NYHA class II-IV) in adults whose heart pumps weakly (left ventricular systolic dysfunction). In these patients it reduces the risk of cardiovascular death and hospital stays for heart failure. The Atacand and candesartan cilexetil tablet labels both list these uses.
