Here's the simple version: Nicardipine already relaxes your blood vessels to bring blood pressure down. Baikal skullcap, in animal studies, seems to nudge blood pressure lower too. Put them together and the worry is they could add up, pushing your numbers down a little more than expected. If that happens, you might feel things like dizziness, lightheadedness (especially when standing up), flushing, headache, or a faster heartbeat, which are also common nicardipine side effects.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This is theoretical and based only on lab and animal research, not solid human studies, so it may not amount to much in real life. Still, if you take both, it's worth mentioning to your pharmacist or doctor and keeping an eye on your blood pressure. Don't change anything on your own.

What Is Nicardipine Used For?

Brand names: Cardene, Cardene SR, Cardene IV

Nicardipine Hydrochloride capsules are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and chronic stable angina (chest pain that comes on with physical effort). The capsules can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure or heart medications.

Intravenous (IV) nicardipine products — including Cardene I.V., Nicardipine Hydrochloride Injection, and Nicardipine Hydrochloride in Sodium Chloride — are used for the short-term treatment of high blood pressure in hospital settings when a patient cannot take oral medication. Once stable, patients are switched to oral therapy.
