In vitro and animal research suggests that Baikal skullcap binds to GABA-A receptors and causes sedation. Theoretically, Baikal skullcap might cause additive therapeutic and adverse effects when used concomitantly with drugs with sedative properties. Preliminary clinical research has not identified clinically relevant sedation after use of Baikal skullcap; however, a thorough evaluation of safety outcomes has not been conducted.

Here's the gist for Zulresso (brexanolone). This is a continuous IV medicine given in a certified hospital or clinic setting, where you're already closely watched. Brexanolone itself can make you very drowsy, and it can even cause sudden deep sedation or loss of consciousness, which is why monitoring is required. Baikal skullcap has been shown in lab and animal studies to gently nudge the same calming GABA system in the brain, so in theory the two together could add up to more sleepiness.

The good news: this is only a theoretical, lab-based concern, and human studies haven't shown meaningful sedation from the herb. Still, since you'd be receiving brexanolone in a supervised setting, please mention any supplements to your care team beforehand so they have the full picture.
