Kutki Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Kutki against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This is a single-ingredient liquid formula: kutki (the herb picrorhiza). Banyan has prepared it as an extract suspended in organic grain alcohol and deionized water, which helps preserve the herb and make its compounds easier to absorb.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for kutki is mixed and sparse. It's rated possibly effective for vitiligo.
For asthma, it's rated possibly ineffective. For chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and hepatitis, there isn't enough reliable evidence to say whether it works.
If you're considering it for any of these conditions, talk it over with your doctor about whether the current evidence supports a trial.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Kutki has been used in traditional medicine but human safety data are limited, so use it with care. Common side effects reported with oral use include vomiting, diarrhea, rash, itching, loss of appetite, and dizziness.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding due to insufficient information.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take immunosuppressant drugs (like cyclosporine or tacrolimus) or diabetes medications, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting kutki. Both interactions are rated Moderate, and the latter can affect your blood sugar control.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Kutki may be worth considering if you're interested in traditional Ayurvedic herbs for vitiligo, but the evidence is limited and side effects are possible. If you take immunosuppressants or diabetes medications, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first — the potential to interfere with these drugs is real.
Pregnant or nursing? The data isn't there to say it's safe, so talk to your healthcare provider.

Kutki by Banyan Botanicals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Kutki by Banyan Botanicals, a liquid extract of picrorhiza, has documented interactions with two major drug categories.
The most serious concern is with immunosuppressant drugs — picrorhiza appears to stimulate immune activity, which could theoretically interfere with medications like cyclosporine, tacrolimus, and mycophenolate that are meant to suppress immunity. This is a Moderate-severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Picrorhiza may also affect blood sugar control. Animal research suggests it can lower blood sugar levels, so if you're taking antidiabetes drugs, combining them with this product could theoretically increase your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
That's also rated Moderate. If you take any of these medication types, monitor your blood glucose closely and talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting — dose adjustments might be needed.
Altogether, these interactions span 207 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions before you begin.

Kutki
Antidiabetes Drugs
Evidence from animal research suggests that an extract of picrorhiza can reduce fasting and non-fasting blood sugar levels. Theoretically, picrorhiza might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.
Immunosuppressants
Picrorhiza seems to have immunostimulating activity. Theoretically, picrorhiza may interfere with immunosuppressant therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).
