What’s inside
Full disclosure
L-Carnitine 1000 mg contains a single active ingredient: L-carnitine fumarate, a compound your body naturally makes and uses to convert fat into energy. The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — vegetable cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, pregelatinized starch, stearic acid, and silica — which are binders and fillers that hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
L-carnitine is effective for L-carnitine deficiency, a condition where your body doesn't have enough of this natural compound. For other uses, the evidence is more mixed.
It's possibly effective for high cholesterol, congestive heart failure (when your heart doesn't pump well), and angina (chest pain from reduced blood flow to the heart). If you're considering it for one of these conditions, talk with your doctor about whether the evidence supports it for your specific situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-carnitine is generally well tolerated at typical doses. The most common side effects are stomach-related — abdominal cramps, pain, diarrhea, nausea, heartburn, and reduced appetite.
Some people report a fishy body odor. Seizures are rare but have been reported.
High doses are more likely to cause stomach upset. There isn't enough reliable safety data on L-carnitine use during pregnancy to know whether it's safe, so talk with your doctor before taking it if you're pregnant.
It's possibly safe while breastfeeding, though safety data is limited and caution is advised.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners like warfarin or acenocoumarol — L-carnitine may boost their effect and increase bleeding risk. Also flag any thyroid hormone replacement, since L-carnitine may weaken it.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with insufficient evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-carnitine may help if you have a carnitine deficiency or want to explore its possibly effective roles in heart and cholesterol health — but it's a medication interaction concern if you take blood thinners or thyroid hormone. Check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist before you start.

L-Carnitine 1000 mg by Amazing Muscle Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
L-Carnitine 1000 mg by Amazing Muscle interacts with blood thinners and thyroid hormone replacement through its single active ingredient, L-carnitine fumarate.
The most serious interaction is with blood thinners (anticoagulants) like warfarin and acenocoumarol — L-carnitine may strengthen their effect, raising your risk of bleeding. There are case reports of increased INR (a measure of blood thinning) when L-carnitine was used alongside acenocoumarol.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
L-carnitine may also decrease how well thyroid hormone replacement works by blocking the hormone from entering your cells. If you take thyroid medication, your dose may need adjustment.
Altogether, these interactions span 19 individual medications. Use the interaction checker below to verify your exact prescriptions before starting this supplement, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether L-carnitine is right for you if you're on any blood thinner or thyroid hormone.

For each ingredient in L-Carnitine 1000 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
L-Carnitine Fumarate
Acenocoumarol (Sintrom)
Theoretically, L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol.
L-carnitine might enhance the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, an oral anticoagulant similar to warfarin, but shorter-acting. There are at least two case reports of INR elevation with concomitant use. In one case, a 33-year-old male with a previously stable INR had an elevated INR of 4.65 after L-carnitine was started and continued for 10 weeks. INR normalized after discontinuation of the L-carnitine-containing product.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, L-carnitine might decrease the effectiveness of thyroid hormone replacement.
L-carnitine appears to act as a peripheral thyroid hormone antagonist by inhibiting entry of thyroid hormone into the nucleus of cells. Taking L-carnitine also seems to diminish some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, a shorter-acting oral anticoagulant similar to warfarin. There is not enough information to know whether this interaction occurs with L-carnitine and warfarin.
