Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: L-glutamine at 500 mg per capsule. L-glutamine is an amino acid — one of the building blocks your body uses to make protein.

The capsule itself is filled with gelatin, microcrystalline cellulose (a plant-based filler), and vegetable magnesium stearate (a binder to help the capsule hold together).

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: muscle recovery from intense exercise.
  • We looked for evidence on: Exercise-induced muscle damage, Athletic performance, Postoperative recovery, Wound healing, Critical illness (trauma), muscle protein synthesis — and 1 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Critical illness (trauma) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Postoperative recovery.
  • Also on file: Glutamine is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Athletic performance.

The evidence for L-glutamine is mixed. It's rated effective for sickle cell disease.

For HIV/AIDS-related wasting, postoperative recovery, and critical illness from trauma, the evidence is rated possibly effective — meaning there's some promise, but we need more research to be confident. The data we hold doesn't establish effectiveness for other uses.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

L-Glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, and vomiting.

Headache and musculoskeletal pain have also been reported. A small number of people have experienced dizziness, and in very rare cases, people with bipolar disorder taking high doses reported mania or hypomania.

Don't use supplemental doses unless your doctor recommends it. If you have kidney or liver disease, use it only under medical supervision.

The safety data during breastfeeding is limited, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it while breastfeeding. During pregnancy, the available data suggests it's likely safe, but confirm that with your own healthcare provider.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Glutamine.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: seizure medications.
  • For scale: 50 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take anticonvulsant medications (seizure drugs). Glutamine might theoretically reduce their effectiveness, though this hasn't been confirmed in humans.

Your healthcare provider can help you decide whether it's safe to use together or if you need to space them out.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

L-Glutamine may help with sickle cell disease and possibly aids recovery after surgery or trauma, though the evidence for those uses is still developing. If you take anticonvulsant medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this — the interaction is theoretical but worth confirming won't affect your seizure control.

For healthy adults without kidney, liver, or seizure medication concerns, it's generally well tolerated, though some gastrointestinal upset is possible. Talk it over with your own doctor or pharmacist to see if it fits your situation.
