How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Glutamine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but if you have kidney or liver disease, you should take it only under medical supervision. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal — belching, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain.
Headache and musculoskeletal pain have also been reported. In rare cases, people with bipolar disorder have reported mood changes (mania or hypomania) while taking glutamine.
There isn't enough reliable safety data in pregnancy, so avoid supplemental doses unless your doctor recommends it. Similarly, there's little safety information while breastfeeding — avoid supplement doses unless a clinician advises otherwise.
