This liquid shot contains four active ingredients. L-carnitine (2,000 mg per serving) is an amino acid your body uses to convert fat into energy.
Vitamin B12 supports nerve function and red blood cell health. Pantothenic acid (also called vitamin B5) helps your body break down food for energy.
Organic acai palmberry is a fruit extract. The product also contains several inactive ingredients—distilled water, vegetable glycerine, xylitol, malic acid, citric acid, natural acai and vanilla flavors, and potassium sorbate (a preservative)—that make up the liquid base and taste.
Does it work?
Not established
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease; it's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning and possibly effective for canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles). L-carnitine is effective for L-carnitine deficiency and possibly effective for high cholesterol, heart failure, and angina.
For the other active ingredients in this product, the evidence we hold is not established: acai's effectiveness for aging skin, athletic performance, erectile dysfunction, or cholesterol is rated insufficient, and pantothenic acid's effects on hay fever, alcoholism, or hair loss are also insufficient to rate. Pantothenic acid deficiency itself is an exception—it is effective for that condition.

Vitamin B12 and pantothenic acid are generally well tolerated at typical doses. B12 is safe in pregnancy and breastfeeding at recommended amounts.
Pantothenic acid is likely safe in pregnancy and lactation, though you should check with your doctor before taking high-dose supplements during those times. L-carnitine at standard doses is generally well tolerated, but high doses can cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, and a fishy body odor; safety data during pregnancy is not reliable, so use only under medical supervision if you're pregnant, and caution is advised while breastfeeding.
Acai as a food is generally well tolerated, but concentrated supplements haven't been well studied in pregnancy or breastfeeding, so caution is warranted. Serious adverse effects from any ingredient are rare; seizures have been reported very rarely with L-carnitine.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking acai with antidiabetes drugs might interfere with glycemic control.
Preliminary clinical research in healthy adults has shown that taking acai may increase or decrease levels of fasting blood glucose.
Vitamin B12
Metformin (Glucophage)
Metformin, a common medication used to manage type 2 diabetes, has been associated with lower vitamin B12 levels in some individuals. Prolonged use of metformin can interfere with the absorption of B12 in the digestive system, potentially leading to a deficiency in this essential vitamin.
L-Carnitine
Acenocoumarol (Sintrom)
Theoretically, L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol.
L-carnitine might enhance the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, an oral anticoagulant similar to warfarin, but shorter-acting. There are at least two case reports of INR elevation with concomitant use. In one case, a 33-year-old male with a previously stable INR had an elevated INR of 4.65 after L-carnitine was started and continued for 10 weeks. INR normalized after discontinuation of the L-carnitine-containing product.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, L-carnitine might decrease the effectiveness of thyroid hormone replacement.
L-carnitine appears to act as a peripheral thyroid hormone antagonist by inhibiting entry of thyroid hormone into the nucleus of cells. Taking L-carnitine also seems to diminish some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, a shorter-acting oral anticoagulant similar to warfarin. There is not enough information to know whether this interaction occurs with L-carnitine and warfarin.
