What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Lacto-Bifido 8 Strain against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Lacto-Bifido 8 Strain by Kirkman
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 8 probiotic strains—live bacteria meant to support digestive and immune health. The checked ingredients are Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium breve, and Bifidobacterium longum; we also hold no interaction or effectiveness data for Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, a proprietary herbal blend, and a couple of other Bifidobacterium species listed on the label.
The capsule itself is filled with inactive ingredients (hypromellose, water, microcrystalline cellulose, and silicon dioxide), which are standard binders and fillers.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for what this product does varies by strain and condition. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis, but possibly ineffective for atopic disease; the data on acute respiratory distress syndrome isn't strong enough to rate.
Bifidobacterium breve and Bifidobacterium longum show insufficient reliable evidence for most conditions we have data on—including allergic rhinitis, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and atopic disease. For the other strains on the label, we don't hold effectiveness ratings.
Talk with your doctor about whether this product is right for what you're hoping to treat.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum are possibly safe in pregnancy; for the others, we don't have safety data on file for pregnancy or breastfeeding. All three checked strains are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though caution is advised for people who are very ill or immune-compromised—rare cases of bloodstream infection (bacteremia) and serious infection (sepsis) have been reported with Bifidobacterium use in critically ill infants and adults.
Uncommon gastrointestinal side effects include bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain, and discomfort; one trial reported rash and itching in a small number of participants, though it's unclear whether those were due to the probiotics or something else. Before starting this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have a weakened immune system or are seriously ill.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your exact medications if you're taking antibiotic drugs—the Moderate-severity interaction means the probiotics' effectiveness could drop if you take them at the same time. Separate the doses as recommended by your pharmacist or doctor.
No other medication types are documented to interact with the ingredients we could check in this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Lacto-Bifido 8 Strain is a multi-strain probiotic that may help with IBS, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and a few other digestive issues if you're on Lactobacillus acidophilus specifically—though evidence for the other strains is weaker or unknown. The main caution is timing: if you're on antibiotics, you'll need to separate when you take them, because the antibiotics will kill the live bacteria in the supplement.
If you're healthy, it's generally well tolerated, but if you're very ill or immune-compromised, talk with your doctor first—rare serious infections have been reported in those groups. Work with your own doctor or pharmacist to decide if this is right for you.

Lacto-Bifido 8 Strain by Kirkman Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Lacto-Bifido 8 Strain by Kirkman does interact with medications—specifically through its Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium breve, and Bifidobacterium longum content, all of which carry Moderate-severity interactions with antibiotic drugs.
Taking these probiotics together with antibiotics can theoretically reduce how well the probiotic works, because antibiotics kill the live organisms in the product.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The concern here is timing: antibiotic drugs are the affected medication type. Since probiotic products contain living microorganisms, antibiotics don't discriminate—they'll kill those beneficial bacteria along with the harmful ones you're trying to eliminate.
That's why the data recommends separating when you take them.
We could not check Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, the Kirkman Proprietary Herbal Blend, or several others listed on the label—we hold no interaction data for them. Use the medication checker on this page to verify your exact drugs, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist about the timing if you're on antibiotics.
