Fidaxomicin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Bifidobacterium Breve interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium breve with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. breve.
Since B. breve preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. breve preparations by at least 2 hours.

Here's the thing to keep in mind: Fidaxomicin is an antibiotic, and its whole job is to kill bacteria in your gut (specifically C. difficile). The catch is that a probiotic like Bifidobacterium breve is made of live, friendly bacteria. If you swallow them at the same time, the antibiotic can wipe out a good chunk of those probiotic organisms before they ever get a chance to settle in. So this isn't about fidaxomicin becoming weaker or stronger, it's about the probiotic losing its punch.

This concern is theoretical, based on how the two work, not on strong studies. The simple fix is timing: many people space the probiotic and the antibiotic by at least 2 hours apart. Since you're treating a serious gut infection, please run your full plan by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Fidaxomicin Used For?

Brand name: Dificid

Fidaxomicin treats C. difficile-associated diarrhea (CDAD) — a bacterial infection in the gut caused by Clostridioides difficile that leads to significant diarrhea and intestinal inflammation. Fidaxomicin tablets are approved for adult patients. Dificid (as tablets or oral suspension) is approved for both adults and children 6 months of age and older.

Because fidaxomicin works almost entirely inside the gut and is barely absorbed into the bloodstream, it is only effective against C. difficile and should not be used for any other type of infection.
