HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Liposomal Vitamin B12 by NanoNutra
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 1 active ingredient: vitamin B12, a nutrient your body needs to make red blood cells, support your nervous system, and produce DNA. The liquid form includes purified water, sunflower lecithin (which helps your body absorb the B12), natural flavors, stevia leaf extract for sweetness, and potassium sorbate as a preservative.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 in this product is effective for treating Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare inherited disorder affecting B12 absorption) and for correcting vitamin B12 deficiency itself. It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
For canker sores and nerve pain after shingles (postherpetic neuralgia), the evidence is less complete — possibly effective based on available data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally very well tolerated, and there's no established upper limit because your body excretes excess amounts in urine. The supplement is considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding at normal recommended amounts — in fact, B12 is needed at both times.
In rare cases, allergic reactions like rash or itching have occurred; people with a cobalt allergy should be aware that cobalt is part of the B12 molecule. Serious side effects are uncommon, but correcting severe B12 deficiency has rarely been linked to a dangerous drop in potassium (low blood sugar equivalent) — another reason to work with your healthcare provider on dosing if you have severe deficiency.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
The main medication type to check before you start is metformin (Glucophage) and other diabetes drugs in the same class. Metformin lowers B12 levels, so while supplementing may actually be beneficial, your provider should know you're adding this.
Run the full search tool on this page with your complete medication list to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is a straightforward B12 supplement useful for people with deficiency or certain digestive disorders that prevent normal absorption. If you take metformin, you're actually at higher risk for B12 deficiency, so supplementing may be especially relevant — check with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you.
If you have a cobalt allergy, talk it over first. Before you start, confirm with your own doctor or pharmacist that it won't interfere with your other medications or health conditions.
