Lycopene Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Lycopene against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
GNC Natural Brand Lycopene is a single-ingredient supplement containing lycopene, a red pigment found naturally in tomatoes and other fruits. The softgel also contains inactive ingredients (soybean oil, corn oil, gelatin, glycerin, and beta-carotene) that help deliver the lycopene and keep the capsule intact.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence on lycopene is mixed. It's possibly effective for prostate cancer risk — the strongest data point — but possibly ineffective for bladder cancer and diabetes.
For high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), exercise-induced asthma, and ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), we don't have enough reliable evidence yet to say whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lycopene from food is considered safe, and supplement doses are generally well tolerated. The most common side effects reported are gastrointestinal — diarrhea, gas, bloating, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and loss of appetite.
One case of chest pain was reported in a pregnant woman taking a lycopene product, but it's unclear whether lycopene caused it. Although lycopene from food amounts in pregnancy and breastfeeding appears safe, supplement doses in pregnancy and lactation haven't been well studied; talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking supplements while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (anticoagulants or antiplatelets) — including warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, or similar medications — check each one with the search tool before taking this lycopene product. The Moderate-severity interaction could increase your bleeding risk.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
GNC Natural Brand Lycopene may be worth considering if you're interested in prostate health and don't take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs. If you do take those medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist first — the interaction risk is real.
Gastrointestinal side effects are possible, so start low if you're new to it. Run your exact medications through the checker on this page, then confirm with your own healthcare provider.

Lycopene by GNC Natural Brand Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
GNC Natural Brand Lycopene is a single-ingredient softgel with one documented interaction category.
Through its lycopene content, this product may increase bleeding risk if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel). Lab research shows lycopene has antiplatelet effects — meaning it may make your blood less likely to clot — and combining it with medications that already do this could theoretically raise your bleeding risk.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Although this is a Moderate-severity interaction, the actual risk depends on your dose, the specific drug you're taking, and your individual factors. Altogether, these interactions span 122 individual medications.
If you take any blood thinner or antiplatelet medication, check your exact drugs with the tool on this page before starting lycopene, and confirm the combination with your own doctor or pharmacist.
