What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product has one active ingredient: mandarin seed extract (dry form). Mandarin seed extract comes from the seeds of the mandarin fruit and is the only medicinal component in this liquid formula.
The product also contains glycerin and water as inactive ingredients—these are there to preserve the extract and keep it in liquid form.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for mandarin seed extract isn't established in the data we hold. The only effectiveness rating on file is for cancer, where there's insufficient reliable evidence to rate it.
If you're considering this product for a specific health goal, talk with your pharmacist about what the science actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Mandarin fruit eaten as food is generally well tolerated. However, the facts note that concentrated extracts and essential oils should be used with caution and under medical advice, since safety hasn't been thoroughly studied in supplement form.
Very few adverse effects have been reported with medicinal use of tangerine, though the evaluation hasn't been complete. Topically, tangerine essential oil can cause contact dermatitis in some people.
We have no pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data on file for this ingredient—talk with your pharmacist or doctor before use if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take midazolam (Versed) or other drugs broken down by cytochrome P450 3A4, check with your pharmacist before use. The interaction is minor based on human studies, but worth confirming for your specific situation.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a single-ingredient mandarin extract product with minor documented interactions that don't appear to cause real-world problems in humans. If you take midazolam or medications processed through the liver enzyme CYP3A4, double-check with us or your pharmacist before starting.

Mandarin Alcohol Free by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Terra's Mandarin Alcohol Free contains mandarin seed extract, which has minor interactions documented with certain medications.
The ingredient includes tangeretin, a compound that in lab studies showed up to a 52% increase in how the liver breaks down midazolam (Versed), a sedative. However, human studies tell a different story—drinking 200 mL of tangerine juice slightly delayed how fast midazolam was absorbed but didn't actually change how the body metabolized it.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Because the lab findings don't match what happens in real people, the practical risk appears small. Still, if you take midazolam or other drugs processed by cytochrome P450 3A4 (a major liver enzyme), it's worth confirming your exact medications won't be affected.
Altogether, these interactions span 633 individual medications. Check your prescriptions with the tool on this page before you start.

Mandarin Seed Extract, Dry
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
In vitro, tangeretin, a constituent of tangerine, induces a 52% increase in the metabolism of midazolam by cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). This suggests that tangeretin may stimulate CYP3A4 activity. However, in humans, drinking tangerine juice 200 mL slightly delayed the absorption, but did not affect the metabolism, of midazolam, a CYP3A4 substrate. Theoretically, tangerine juice might increase CYP3A4 activity and decrease levels of drugs metabolized by this enzyme. However, this effect is unlikely.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include amitriptyline (Elavil), amiodarone (Cordarone), citalopram (Celexa), felodipine (Plendil), lansoprazole (Prevacid), ondansetron (Zofran), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), sertraline (Zoloft), sibutramine (Meridia), and many others.
Midazolam (Versed)
In vitro, tangeretin, a constituent of tangerine, appears to increase the metabolism of midazolam in human liver microsomes by up to 52%. However, in humans, drinking tangerine juice 200 mL slightly delayed the absorption, but did not affect the metabolism, of midazolam. Theoretically, tangerine juice might increase the metabolism and reduce the effects of midazolam. However, this effect is unlikely.
