Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.

This product contains a single active ingredient: mangosteen extract, a 4:1 concentrated form of the mangosteen fruit. The remaining contents are inactive — gelatin (the capsule material) and water.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Mangosteen's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Mangosteen for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Periodontitis — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

Mangosteen extract is possibly effective for periodontitis (a serious gum infection). For other uses — hair loss (androgenic alopecia), Alzheimer's disease, and eczema — the evidence isn't established in the data we hold.

If you're considering this for gum health, talk it over with your dentist or doctor.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Mangosteen extract as a food is generally well tolerated, but long-term safety of concentrated supplements hasn't been well studied. In studies, doses up to 560 mg daily have occasionally been associated with tiredness, headache, dizziness, constipation, nausea, cough, and dry throat — though it's unclear whether mangosteen was actually the cause.

The safety data advises against using this supplement during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?

  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 125 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check your medications before taking this product if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (warfarin, clopidogrel, aspirin, and others) — mangosteen may increase bleeding risk. Also double-check if you take donepezil (Aricept) for memory or cognition, as mangosteen might raise its levels in your brain.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs may increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro and animal research shows that gamma-mangostin, a constituent of mangosteen, is a potent and competitive antagonist of the serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor. Antagonism of the 5-HT2A receptor is believed to reduce platelet aggregation.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Donepezil (Aricept)

Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with donepezil might increase the effects of donepezil.
Animal research shows that concomitant use of an aqueous extract of mangosteen pericarp with donepezil increases brain concentrations of donepezil at 4 hours by 64% without associated effects on systemic exposure.
