Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This supplement contains one active ingredient: mangosteen fruit, 450 mg per capsule. Mangosteen is a tropical fruit whose pericarp (the rind) has been studied for its potential health effects.

The capsules also contain gelatin and water as inactive ingredients.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Mangosteen's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Mangosteen for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Periodontitis — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

The evidence behind mangosteen is mixed. For gum disease (periodontitis), it's rated possibly effective — there's some evidence to go on, but it's not definitive.

For male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia), Alzheimer disease, and eczema (atopic dermatitis), we don't have enough reliable evidence yet to know whether it works. If you're looking at mangosteen for one of these other uses, know that the science simply isn't settled.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Mangosteen is generally well tolerated as a food, but the long-term safety of concentrated supplements like this one hasn't been well studied. In research using up to 560 mg daily, some people reported mild tiredness, headache, dizziness, malaise, or digestive symptoms — constipation, bloating, nausea, diarrhea — along with dry throat, cough, and flu-like symptoms, though it's unclear whether mangosteen actually caused them.

The safety data advises against using supplement amounts during pregnancy or breastfeeding because there isn't enough information. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to be.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Mangosteen.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 125 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs like aspirin or clopidogrel — there's a Moderate risk of increased bleeding. Also check if you're on donepezil (Aricept) for Alzheimer disease, where a Minor interaction is possible.

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

If you have gum disease and want to try mangosteen as a complementary approach, this single-ingredient product might be worth discussing with your doctor or dentist. The main caution is if you take blood thinners or donepezil — check those combinations with your healthcare provider first.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs may increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro and animal research shows that gamma-mangostin, a constituent of mangosteen, is a potent and competitive antagonist of the serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor. Antagonism of the 5-HT2A receptor is believed to reduce platelet aggregation.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Donepezil (Aricept)

Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with donepezil might increase the effects of donepezil.
Animal research shows that concomitant use of an aqueous extract of mangosteen pericarp with donepezil increases brain concentrations of donepezil at 4 hours by 64% without associated effects on systemic exposure.
