HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Mega+O by BergaMet North America
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Mega+O contains one active ingredient: Citrus Bergamot extract, which comes from the rind of the bergamot citrus fruit. The capsule also includes inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose (a binder), silicon dioxide, and stearic acid — to hold the extract in form.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Bergamot extract is possibly effective for lowering cholesterol and triglycerides (hyperlipidemia). The evidence for mental alertness is rated possibly ineffective.
For nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and autism spectrum disorder, there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to know whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The oral extract is generally well tolerated short-term, though one person in clinical trials reported heartburn. The essential oil, if swallowed, can be toxic — this product is an extract, not the oil itself, but be clear on that distinction.
Topically, bergamot can cause sun-related skin reactions, especially blisters, redness, and dark spots, particularly in fair-skinned people. Bergamot supplements are not recommended during pregnancy because there isn't enough safety data.
Breastfeeding safety is also unknown, so it's safer to avoid it while nursing. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor if you're pregnant or planning to breastfeed and want to know more.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Mega+O, check whether you take any photosensitizing drugs (medications that increase sun sensitivity) or antidiabetes drugs — both are Moderate-severity interactions with bergamot. Use the search tool on this page to verify your exact prescriptions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Mega+O may help with cholesterol if that's your concern, but you'll want to check it against any diabetes or photosensitizing medications you're on. People who spend a lot of time in the sun should be cautious.
Avoid it in pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Run your exact medications through our checker before you start.

Mega+O by BergaMet North America Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Mega+O by BergaMet North America contains one active ingredient, Citrus Bergamot extract, which does interact with certain medications.
The most serious concern is with photosensitizing drugs (drugs that make your skin sensitive to sunlight) — bergamot contains a compound called bergapten that can increase photosensitivity risk, and this interaction is rated Moderate in severity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The extract also interacts with antidiabetes drugs (medications that lower blood sugar). Animal research suggests bergamot may lower blood sugar on its own, so combining it with diabetes medications could theoretically increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
This is also a Moderate-severity interaction.
Altogether, these interactions span 408 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact drugs before you start.
