Here's the simple version: bendroflumethiazide is a water pill (a thiazide diuretic) used for high blood pressure and swelling. One thing many people don't realize is that this medicine can already make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you may sunburn more easily than usual. Bergamot oil contains a compound called bergapten, which can do the same thing.

Put those two together and, at least in theory, you might burn faster or get a skin rash with less sun than you'd expect. This concern mostly applies to bergamot essential oil placed on the skin, not the cholesterol-type bergamot capsules taken by mouth. The evidence here is theoretical, so don't panic, just use sunscreen, cover up, and check with your pharmacist if you plan to use bergamot oil.
