Here's the deal with bergamot and chlorpheniramine: this isn't about how your body breaks the drug down. It's about your skin. Bergamot, especially the essential oil rubbed on the skin, contains a compound called bergapten that can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Chlorpheniramine is grouped with medicines that can do the same thing, so in theory using both could mean a slightly higher chance of sunburn or a rash on sun-exposed skin.

I'll be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on how these things work, not strong real-world evidence, and it mostly applies to topical bergamot oil rather than the cholesterol-type capsules. To be safe, wear sunscreen and don't change anything on your own. A quick chat with your pharmacist can put your mind at ease.

Chlorpheniramine is used to temporarily relieve common allergy symptoms caused by hay fever (allergic rhinitis) or other upper respiratory allergies. These include runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.

These uses are supported across multiple products — including tablets (such as Aller-chlor, Allergy, Allergy Relief, Allergy Time, Anti Allergy, and Chlorpheniramine Maleate), extended-release tablets (Allergy Relief and Chlorphen-12), the oral solution Ed Chlorped Jr, and the inhalers ClorRelief and ClorRelief KIDs.
