No Mo-Squito Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking No Mo-Squito against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
No Mo-Squito is a liquid supplement with three active ingredients: propolis (a resinous mixture bees make), green rooibos tea (a caffeine-free tea from South Africa), and sweet wormwood (an herb also called Sweet Annie). The product also contains vegetable glycerin, distilled water, and organic grain alcohol as inactive ingredients to preserve and deliver the actives.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
Propolis has possibly effective evidence for oral mucositis (mouth sores) and cold sores, and possibly effective evidence for diabetes. Green rooibos tea has insufficient reliable evidence for any of the conditions we hold data on — including age-related cognitive decline, hay fever, anxiety, cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.
Sweet wormwood has possibly effective evidence for hay fever, but insufficient reliable evidence for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, malaria, and osteoarthritis. There's no data on this product's effectiveness against mosquitoes or insects.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Propolis is generally well tolerated short-term, though allergic reactions are possible — especially if you're sensitive to bee products. The most common side effect is headache; about 7% of people in one trial reported mild headache with propolis 250 mg twice daily over 4 months.
Rare severe allergic reactions can occur. Propolis is not recommended in pregnancy because there isn't enough safety information, and while it's possibly safe during breastfeeding, data is limited.
Green rooibos tea is generally safe in normal beverage amounts, though large long-term doses might rarely cause liver damage — one case reported a man who drank 10 cups daily for over a year and developed liver problems. There's little research on pregnancy and breastfeeding, so talk with your provider if you're considering regular use during these times.
Sweet wormwood is generally well tolerated short-term, with nausea and vomiting as the most common side effects; rare hepatotoxicity (liver damage) has been reported. Sweet wormwood should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding because of safety concerns.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (such as warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel) — propolis may increase bleeding risk. Also check if you take any drug metabolized by your liver's CYP450 enzymes, including cholesterol drugs like atorvastatin, ACE inhibitors for blood pressure, or drugs broken down by CYP1A2, CYP2B6, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP2E1, or CYP3A4 pathways.
Finally, if you're taking medications that can harm the liver, talk with your provider before adding sweet wormwood.

No Mo-Squito by Mountain Meadow Herbs Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
No Mo-Squito by Mountain Meadow Herbs contains three active ingredients — propolis, green rooibos tea, and sweet wormwood — and all three have documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is a moderate-severity interaction: propolis may theoretically increase the risk of bleeding when taken with blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (such as warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel), because research shows propolis can inhibit platelet clumping.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Propolis also interacts theoretically with several classes of drugs your liver metabolizes through multiple enzyme systems (CYP1A2, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, CYP2E1, and CYP3A4 substrates). At high doses, propolis may increase blood levels of these medications.
Additionally, propolis may decrease warfarin's effectiveness by lowering your INR (international normalized ratio).
Green rooibos tea carries similar moderate-severity interactions: it may increase the effects of drugs metabolized through CYP1A2, CYP2C9, CYP2C19, CYP2D6, and CYP3A4 pathways. It also interacts with ACE inhibitors (blood pressure medications) and with atorvastatin (a cholesterol drug), potentially boosting their effects.
Sweet wormwood may interact with drugs metabolized by CYP2B6 and CYP3A4, and it carries a concern for additive liver damage if you're taking other hepatotoxic (liver-damaging) drugs.
Altogether, these interactions span 1,119 individual medications. Use the interaction checker on this page to search your exact prescriptions before starting this product.

Propolis
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, propolis might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro research shows that propolis water extract and the propolis constituent, caffeic acid phenethyl ester, can inhibit platelet aggregation. Additionally, evidence from an animal model shows that taking propolis in addition to warfarin decreases INR, suggesting that propolis can decrease the effectiveness of warfarin.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, high doses of propolis might increase blood levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that propolis extract can inhibit CYP1A2. However, animal research shows that propolis extract does not significantly affect CYP1A2 activity when administered to rats at doses up to 250 mg/kg. It is postulated that the constituents of propolis that inhibit CYP1A2 in vitro do not have significant effects in vivo due to low bioavailability and hepatic first-pass effect. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2C19 (Cyp2C19) Substrates
Theoretically, high doses of propolis might increase blood levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
In vitro research shows that propolis extract can inhibit CYP2C19. However, animal research shows that propolis extract does not significantly affect CYP2C19 activity when administered to rats at doses up to 250 mg/kg. It is postulated that the constituents of propolis that inhibit CYP2C19 in vitro do not have significant effects in vivo due to low bioavailability and hepatic first-pass effect. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, high doses of propolis might increase blood levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro research shows that propolis extract can inhibit CYP2C9. However, animal research shows that propolis extract does not significantly affect CYP2C9 activity when administered to rats at doses up to 250 mg/kg. It is postulated that the constituents of propolis that inhibit CYP2C9 in vitro do not have significant effects in vivo due to low bioavailability and hepatic first-pass effect. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, high doses of propolis might increase blood levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research shows that propolis extract can inhibit CYP2D6. However, animal research shows that propolis extract does not significantly affect CYP2D6 activity when administered to rats at doses up to 250 mg/kg. It is postulated that the constituents of propolis that inhibit CYP2D6 in vitro do not have significant effects in vivo due to low bioavailability and hepatic first-pass effect. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 2E1 (Cyp2E1) Substrates
Theoretically, propolis might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2E1.
In vitro research shows that propolis can inhibit CYP2E1. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, high doses of propolis might increase blood levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Some in vitro research shows that propolis extract can inhibit CYP3A4; however, other in vitro research shows that propolis has no effect on CYP3A4 activity. Furthermore, animal research shows that propolis extract does not significantly affect CYP3A4 activity when administered to rats at doses up to 250 mg/kg. It is postulated that the constituents of propolis that might in inhibit CYP3A4 in vitro do not have significant effects in vivo due to low bioavailability and hepatic first-pass effect. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, propolis might decrease the effectiveness of warfarin.
Animal research shows that taking propolis in addition to warfarin decreases the international normalized ratio (INR). This effect has not been reported in humans.
Sweet Wormwood
Cytochrome P450 2B6 (Cyp2B6) Substrates
Sweet Annie may alter plasma levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2B6.
In vitro research shows that the Sweet Annie constituent artemisinin induces CYP2B6, possibly increasing CYP2B6 activity by 1.6-fold. However, Sweet Annie extract seems to inhibit the activity of CYP2B6 in vitro, suggesting that other constituents of Sweet Annie play a role in its effects on the overall activity of this enzyme. More information is needed to determine whether taking Sweet Annie extract affects the metabolism of CYP2B6 substrates.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Sweet Annie may alter plasma levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that the Sweet Annie constituent artemisinin induces CYP3A4, possibly increasing CYP3A4 activity by 1.9-fold. However, Sweet Annie extract seems to inhibit the activity of CYP3A4 in vitro, suggesting that other constituents of Sweet Annie play a role in its effects on the overall activity of this enzyme. More information is needed to determine whether taking Sweet Annie extract affects the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use might have additive adverse hepatotoxic effects.
There is some concern that Sweet Annie can adversely affect the liver.
Green Rooibos Tea
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Theoretically, taking rooibos with ACEIs may increase the therapeutic and adverse effects of ACEIs.
Clinical research in healthy adults shows that taking a single dose of rooibos tea, 400 mL orally, inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme activity.
Atorvastatin (Lipitor)
Theoretically, taking rooibos with atorvastatin may increase the therapeutic and adverse effects of atorvastatin.
Animal research shows that consuming green rooibos extract with atorvastatin daily for 3 weeks increases the maximum plasma concentration of atorvastatin by 6-fold and reduces the clearance of atorvastatin.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP1A2 substrates may increase the effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems inhibits CYP1A2 enzyme activity.
