HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Organic Stevia by Village Vitality
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic stevia leaf extract — a zero-calorie sweetener derived from the stevia plant. It's sweetening power comes from compounds called steviol glycosides.
The liquid form also contains certified organic vegetable glycerin and deionized water as inactive ingredients to deliver it.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for stevia isn't solid enough to confirm it works for diabetes, high blood pressure, or weight loss. The facts we hold show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for any of these uses.
While some early research hints that stevia might affect blood sugar or blood pressure, other studies contradict those findings — so we can't say it reliably does either.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Purified stevia in the amounts you'd find in food is generally well tolerated. At supplement doses — especially whole-leaf forms — safety data is thin, so caution is wise.
The most common side effects from stevia are mild: abdominal bloating, dizziness, headache, muscle aches, nausea, and numbness. Most of these tend to clear up after the first week.
Allergic reactions are rare but possible.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you take lithium — stevia may raise its levels. Blood pressure medications and diabetes drugs also warrant a conversation, since stevia may amplify their effects.
No interactions are documented for the inactive ingredients we hold data for.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Stevia is a sweetener generally well tolerated at food levels. If you take lithium, blood pressure drugs, or diabetes medications, you'll want to confirm with your own doctor or pharmacist that this product is okay for you before starting — the interactions are real enough to warrant a conversation.
At supplement doses, long-term safety isn't well established, so it's worth discussing that too.

Organic Stevia by Village Vitality Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Village Vitality's Organic Stevia can interact with three medication types, with the most serious concern involving lithium — a mood stabilizer where stevia may slow how your body clears it and raise its levels to potentially unsafe amounts.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Stevia may also lower blood pressure, which could be risky if you're already taking blood pressure medications (antihypertensives). The concern is additive — combining them might drop your pressure too far.
Additionally, there's a theoretical risk that stevia could increase the effect of diabetes medications and tip your blood sugar too low (hypoglycemia), though the evidence here is mixed.
Altogether, these interactions span 259 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up any you're currently taking before you start this product.

certified organic Stevia leaf extract
Lithium
Theoretically, stevia might decrease clearance and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that stevia extracts might have diuretic activity. Theoretically, increased reabsorption of lithium along with sodium might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, stevia might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when combined with antidiabetes drugs.
Preliminary clinical research in patients with type 2 diabetes suggests that taking a single dose of stevia extract 1000 mg reduces postprandial blood glucose levels when taken with a meal. However, other clinical research in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes suggests that taking stevioside 250 mg three times daily does not significantly affect blood glucose levels or glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) after three months of treatment.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining stevia or stevia constituents with antihypertensive agents might increase the risk of hypotension.
Stevia extract and stevioside might lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension. However, other clinical research suggests that stevioside does not significantly lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
