What’s inside
Full disclosure
This powder contains 5 active ingredients that work together to support liver and brain function. Choline is an essential nutrient your body uses to build cell membranes and create a brain chemical called acetylcholine.
Phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylserine, and phosphatidylinositol are specialized fats found in cell membranes that may help with brain health and cognition. Soy lecithin — a natural source of these phospholipids — is included as a base ingredient.
The only other ingredient is silicon dioxide, an inactive additive used to keep the powder flowing freely.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for what this product can do is mixed. Phosphatidylserine is possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease, according to the data we hold.
Phosphatidylcholine is possibly effective for ulcerative colitis. For the other claimed uses — brain function, liver support, athletic performance, and other cognitive conditions — the evidence is either not established or too limited to rate.
Choline itself shows no evidence of helping athletic performance and insufficient evidence for most brain-related uses listed in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylcholine and choline are generally well tolerated at normal doses. The most common side effects with these ingredients are mild: fishy body odor (with choline), bloating, nausea, diarrhea, headache, and insomnia.
At very high doses — well above typical supplement levels — choline can cause more serious digestive upset and sweating. Phosphatidylserine is also generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety hasn't been fully studied.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: choline is rated likely safe in pregnancy, but phosphatidylserine should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to insufficient safety data. Phosphatidylcholine has not been studied enough in pregnancy or breastfeeding to know either way.
Talk with your doctor before using this product if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start, check whether you take anticholinergic drugs (like those for overactive bladder or certain stomach conditions) — phosphatidylserine may reduce their effectiveness (Moderate). Also check for any cholinergic drugs — phosphatidylserine could add to their effects (Moderate).
If you take atropine, choline might decrease how well it works (Minor). Use the medication checker below to verify your specific prescriptions.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a reasonable choice if you're interested in brain and liver support and don't take anticholinergic or cholinergic medications. Check your exact medications before starting — especially if you take heart, blood pressure, or bladder medications.
Avoid it during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor gives the okay. Your pharmacist can help you search your specific drugs on this page.

Formula
Phosphatidyl Choline Ultra High Potency Phospholipids 1,000 mg PC 390 mg PE 180 mg PI 10 mg PS
PC Liver and Brain Granules provides a unique ultra-concentrated source of four essential phospholipids with exceptionally high levels of phosphatidyl choline (PC), which is the most abundant and important phospholipid in the body – particularly in the liver and brain. Phospholipids are vital to the structure of all cell membranes, and phosphatidyl choline is an essential building block of both liver and brain cells. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration now recognizes choline as essential because its content in our diet is inadequate and choline plays such a vital role in so many processes throughout the body, including the liver, nervous and cardiovascular systems, as well as the integrity of all cell membranes, the metabolism of fat and the growth of healthy hair. PC is a necessary raw material for the production of two vital components of the nervous system, acetylcholine, which is the primary neurotransmitter that allows all our nerve cells to communicate, as well as sphingomyelin, which forms the sheath that protects nerve cells. Both are absolutely essential for the normal, healthy functioning of the nervous system and brain – particularly as we age. In addition to providing extremely high levels of phosphatidyl choline (1,000 mg per tsp), our special PC Liver and Brain Granules provide almost 600 mg of phosphatidyl inositol (PI) and phosphatidyl ethanolamine (PE), as well as 10 mg of all-important phosphatidyl serine (PS). PC and PS are the most concentrated and critical phospholipids in the brain and both have been observed to help with the mild memory problems associated with the normal aging process. PS also supports our body’s healthy response to stress while supporting mental clarity, memory and cognitive function. The liver is perhaps the hardest working organ in our body and is comprised of more than 355,000 square feet of membrane surface area. PC makes up almost two-thirds of the more than 8 acres (about 8 football fields) of that hard-working membrane surface area within the liver. PC is essential to the liver’s vital role of cleansing the body’s internal environment and processing waste products, including virtually all medicines and alcohol. It is also required for the transport and metabolism of fat, protein and cholesterol within the body. PC is absolutely unique in its predominance in both the brain and liver, as well as the critical role it plays in the healthy function of these two vital organs. Given our concerns about fat and cholesterol metabolism, along with our society’s increasing consumption of medicines and alcohol, PC and PS just make sense and our PC Liver and Brain Granules is our most concentrated, comprehensive and economical way of delivering these essential nutrients.

Phosphatidyl Choline PC Liver & Brain Granules by ProCaps Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
ProCaps Laboratories Phosphatidyl Choline PC Liver & Brain Granules contains five active ingredients, three of which we've checked for interactions.
The most serious concern is choline's potential to reduce the effects of atropine (an anticholinergic medication sometimes used for certain conditions) — this is a Minor interaction, meaning it's unlikely to cause major harm but worth knowing about.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Phosphatidylserine may decrease how well anticholinergic drugs work and could add to the effects of cholinergic drugs (medications that work like acetylcholine, a brain chemical). Both are Moderate interactions.
Phosphatidylcholine has no interactions documented in our data. We could not check phosphatidylethanolamine or phosphatidylinositol — we hold no safety information for those ingredients.
Altogether, these interactions span 218 individual medications. If you take any blood pressure medications, heart medications, medications for overactive bladder, or any prescription at all, use the interaction checker on this page to look up your exact drugs before starting this product.
