What’s inside
Full disclosure
This softgel contains 3 active ingredients: phosphatidylserine, phosphatidylethanolamine, and phosphatidylcholine — all phospholipids, which are fatty compounds found naturally in cell membranes. Phosphatidylserine is thought to play a role in brain function and has been studied for age-related memory and Alzheimer's disease.
The other two phospholipids support cellular health and have been investigated for liver and digestive conditions. The capsule also holds gelatin, glycerin, polyglycitol syrup, and purified water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Phosphatidylserine is rated possibly effective for slowing age-related cognitive decline and possibly effective for Alzheimer's disease. However, the evidence for its use in general cognitive function, ADHD, dementia, and athletic performance is insufficient to make a reliable rating.
Phosphatidylcholine is possibly effective for ulcerative colitis, but evidence is insufficient for its use in fatty liver disease, alcohol-related liver damage, Alzheimer's, and anxiety. We hold no effectiveness data for phosphatidylethanolamine.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety hasn't been fully established. The most common side effects are flatulence, gastrointestinal upset, headache, insomnia, and nausea — insomnia is more likely at higher doses around 600 mg.
Phosphatidylcholine is also generally well tolerated at typical doses, but high amounts can cause digestive upset including bloating, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting; it may also increase sweating and itching. During pregnancy, there isn't enough safety information for phosphatidylserine, so avoidance is recommended.
For phosphatidylcholine, choline itself is needed in pregnancy, but supplement safety beyond food sources isn't well studied — talk with your doctor. Safety during breastfeeding is unknown for both phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine; speak with your healthcare provider before use.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this, check with your own doctor or pharmacist if you're on anticholinergic drugs (for overactive bladder or Parkinson's symptoms) or cholinergic drugs (for Alzheimer's or myasthenia gravis) — phosphatidylserine may change how well they work. We could not check phosphatidylethanolamine for interactions.
Use the medication search tool on this page to verify your specific medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're concerned about age-related memory loss or early Alzheimer's changes, this product may be worth discussing with your doctor — phosphatidylserine has some evidence behind it for those uses. But if you take medications for bladder control, Parkinson's disease, or Alzheimer's treatment (cholinergic or anticholinergic drugs), you'll need to check those specific prescriptions against the medication list on this page before you start.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Talk it over with your own doctor or pharmacist first, since safety data is limited.

Phosphatidylserine Complex 500 mg by BIOVEA Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Phosphatidylserine Complex 500 mg by BIOVEA can interact with medications through its phosphatidylserine content.
The most serious documented interaction is Moderate-severity: phosphatidylserine may decrease how well anticholinergic drugs work (medications that block acetylcholine, used for conditions like overactive bladder and Parkinson's disease) by increasing acetylcholine levels in your body.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Phosphatidylserine also carries a Moderate-severity risk with cholinergic drugs (medications that boost acetylcholine, such as some Alzheimer's treatments). It may amplify their effects, potentially causing too much cholinergic activity.
We could not check phosphatidylethanolamine for interactions — no monograph data is on file for it. Phosphatidylcholine, the third ingredient, shows no interactions documented in our data.
Altogether, these interactions span 219 individual medications. To find out whether your specific prescriptions are among them, use the medication checker on this page before you start.
