Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: phosphatidylserine, at 300 mg per dose. Phosphatidylserine is a phospholipid — a type of fat found naturally in cell membranes — that's thought to support brain function.
The powder also includes phospholipids as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Phosphatidylserine is possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease based on available evidence. For athletic performance, ADHD, general cognitive function, and dementia, the evidence isn't strong enough yet to rate how well it works.
If you're considering this for brain health in older age, the data is more encouraging than for other uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, though long-term safety hasn't been fully studied. The most common side effects are flatulence, stomach upset, headache, insomnia, and nausea — especially at higher doses.
Insomnia is more likely if you take 600 mg, and gastrointestinal upset can happen at doses around 200–300 mg daily. There isn't enough safety information to recommend this during pregnancy, so avoidance is advised.
Safety while breastfeeding is also unknown, so it's best to skip it then too. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications before starting if you take anticholinergic drugs (for overactive bladder, certain Parkinson symptoms, or other conditions) or cholinergic drugs (for myasthenia gravis or other autoimmune muscle conditions). Both categories have Moderate interaction potential with phosphatidylserine.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Phosphatidylserine may be worth considering if you're dealing with age-related memory changes or Alzheimer disease. If you take anticholinergic or cholinergic medications, check with your pharmacist first — there's a documented interaction risk.
Mild stomach upset or sleep issues can happen, especially at higher doses. Start low and talk with your pharmacist about whether this fits your situation.
