by NusaPure
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Policosanol 100 mg against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Each capsule contains 100 mg of policosanol, the single active ingredient. Policosanol is the ingredient whose interactions and effects are described on this page.
The inactive ingredients listed are cellulose, silica, magnesium stearate, and rice flour. These are non-active fillers and binding agents that help form the capsule and are not expected to add therapeutic effects.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence for policosanol is mixed. It is rated Likely Effective for intermittent claudication (leg pain caused by reduced blood flow when walking).
For coronary heart disease and familial hypercholesterolemia (a inherited high cholesterol condition), the evidence is rated Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate, so we can't say whether it helps for those uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Policosanol is generally well tolerated in studies, though its real-world benefit is uncertain and product quality varies between brands. Reported side effects include headache, dizziness (vertigo), sleepiness, insomnia, upset stomach, skin rash, itching, and weight loss.
These are described as uncommon, and only a small number of trial participants reported them. One case report describes gum bleeding in a patient taking policosanol with aspirin.
For pregnancy and breastfeeding, our safety notes say there isn't enough safety information to be sure it's safe, and they advise against use during both. Please talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your individual situation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check these medication types before taking this product, since all are rated Moderate: blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs), warfarin (Coumadin), beta-blockers including propranolol (Inderal), nitroprusside (Nitropress), and antidiabetes drugs. Use the search tool on this page to look up your exact medication, and confirm with your own doctor or pharmacist before combining them.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This may be worth discussing if you have intermittent claudication and want to know what the evidence shows. If you take blood pressure medicine, blood thinners, warfarin, or diabetes medication, be especially careful and talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not start it without advice from your own healthcare provider.

Policosanol 100 mg by NusaPure Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
NusaPure Policosanol 100 mg has one active ingredient, policosanol, and it has several documented interactions, so it's worth reviewing with your prescriber before you start.
The most serious severity in our data is Moderate, and the clearest concern is blood pressure medicine: policosanol can add to the blood pressure-lowering effect of beta-blockers (a common heart and blood pressure drug type). Altogether, these interactions span 242 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The other drug types in our data are also rated Moderate. Blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs) and warfarin (Coumadin) may increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
Propranolol (Inderal), a beta-blocker, and nitroprusside (Nitropress), a drug that lowers blood pressure, may have their blood pressure-lowering effects increased. Antidiabetes drugs may have additive blood sugar-lowering effects, which could raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Every interaction listed for this product is based on the policosanol data we hold, and none of the ingredients are unchecked. Check your exact medications with the search tool on this page, and confirm the details with your own doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

For each ingredient in Policosanol 100 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Policosanol
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking policosanol with other antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
Some clinical research shows that taking policosanol 10-50 mg daily for 7-15 days can inhibit platelet aggregation in healthy patients. Although, one clinical trial shows that taking policosanol 10 mg twice daily for 2 weeks prior to warfarin dosing does not affect warfarin pharmacokinetics or warfarin response. Furthermore, a study in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention with a drug-eluting stent found that taking policosanol 40 mg plus clopidogrel and aspirin daily for 30 days modestly reduced the risk for minor bleeding events when compared with taking clopidogrel and aspirin alone. Until more is known, use with caution.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, policosanol might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that policosanol can lower blood glucose levels.
Beta-Blockers
Concomitant use of policosanol with beta-blockers can cause additive blood pressure-lowering effects.
Clinical research shows that policosanol 5 mg daily can have additive blood pressure-lowering effects in patients with hypertension who are taking beta-blockers. Also, animal research shows that policosanol can increase the blood-pressure lowering effects of propranolol.
Nitroprusside (Nitropress)
Theoretically, concomitant use of policosanol with nitroprusside might cause additive blood pressure-lowering effects.
Animal research shows that taking policosanol along with nitroprusside can increase the blood pressure-lowering effects of nitroprusside.
Propranolol (Inderal)
Animal research shows that taking policosanol along with propranolol can increase the blood pressure-lowering effects of propranolol.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, taking policosanol with warfarin might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
Some clinical research shows that taking policosanol 10-50 mg daily for 7-15 days can inhibit platelet aggregation in healthy patients. However, one clinical trial shows that taking policosanol 10 mg twice daily for 2 weeks prior to warfarin dosing does not affect warfarin pharmacokinetics or warfarin response.
