What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: potassium. Potassium is a mineral your body needs for nerve and muscle function, including heartbeat regulation.
The tablet also contains microcrystalline cellulose, vegetable cellulose, and stearic acid as inactive ingredients that help form and stabilize the tablet.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We don't hold effectiveness data for this product in our system, so we can't tell you how well it works for any particular condition. If you're thinking about taking a potassium supplement, talk with your doctor about whether you actually need one — many people get enough from food, and the need for supplements varies widely based on your medications, kidney function, and diet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Potassium from a normal diet is safe and necessary. Supplements are generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, but they can cause some unwelcome side effects: abdominal pain, belching, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, and vomiting are the most common.
The serious concern is high potassium levels in the blood (hyperkalemia), which can trigger irregular heartbeats, heart block, low blood pressure, or even cardiac arrest — these are rare but dangerous, especially in people with kidney disease. During pregnancy, dietary potassium is fine, but supplements should only be used under medical guidance.
The safety data on potassium supplements while breastfeeding is limited, so check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking one. Because potassium supplements carry real risks depending on your kidney function and medications, use only under medical supervision.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors, or angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this product — all three classes interact at Moderate severity and raise the risk of dangerously high blood potassium. No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we checked, but your personal medications and kidney function matter a lot here.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Potassium supplements are useful for some people but risky without the right oversight. If you take blood pressure medications — especially ACE inhibitors, ARBs, or potassium-sparing diuretics — or if you have kidney disease, you need to talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.
Even if you don't take those medications, high potassium levels can be serious, so confirm with your own healthcare provider that a supplement is right for you.

Formula
Potassium is an essential mineral needed by the body. It is vital for muscle activity. As an important electrolyte, it regulates nerve signals from the brain and spinal column to muscles and also promotes proper fluid balance in the body. Potassium also helps to attract nutrients into cells.
This formulation provides potassium complexed with the amino acid glycine.

Potassium Amino Acid Complex by Solgar Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Solgar's Potassium Amino Acid Complex interacts with several important blood pressure and heart medications through its potassium content.
The most serious concern is with potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that preserve potassium), ACE inhibitors, and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) — all three drug classes carry a Moderate severity risk of high blood potassium (hyperkalemia). These medications already reduce how much potassium your body excretes, so adding a potassium supplement on top can push levels dangerously high.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
ACE inhibitors and ARBs work by blocking a hormonal system that normally helps your kidneys clear potassium. When you combine them with potassium supplements — especially higher doses — your body can't keep up.
The same problem occurs with potassium-sparing diuretics, which intentionally preserve potassium to prevent the loss that older water pills cause. If you take any of these three medication types, potassium supplements aren't automatically off-limits, but the dose and timing matter a lot.
Altogether, these interactions span 62 individual medications. Before you start this product, run through the search tool on this page with your exact prescriptions, or sit down with your doctor or pharmacist to check whether a potassium supplement makes sense for you.

Potassium
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Using ACEIs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ACEIs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Arbs)
Using ARBs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ARBs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Concomitant use increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Using potassium-sparing diuretics with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
