What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: potassium at 99 mg per tablet. Potassium is an electrolyte your body needs for nerve and muscle function, including heartbeat regulation and blood pressure control.
The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — cellulose, stearic acid, croscarmellose sodium, silicon dioxide, PEG, and vegetable magnesium stearate — which are fillers and binders that hold the tablet together.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We hold no effectiveness ratings for potassium gluconate in our data. If you're taking this product to treat or prevent a potassium deficiency, that's a conversation to have with your own doctor or pharmacist — they can assess whether your blood potassium actually needs boosting and whether diet or a prescription form would be better for you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Potassium from food is safe; potassium supplements are a different story and need caution. The supplement can cause dangerously high blood levels in some people, especially those with kidney disease or reduced kidney function.
Orally, most people tolerate it reasonably well, but common side effects include abdominal pain, belching, diarrhea, gas, nausea, and vomiting. In rare cases, very high potassium levels can trigger serious heart problems — irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), heart block, low blood pressure, or even cardiac arrest — along with mental confusion.
For pregnancy, dietary potassium is fine, but use supplements only under medical guidance. While breastfeeding, check with your doctor before taking a potassium supplement.
The data we hold rates potassium as likely safe in pregnancy and lactation from food sources, but supplements are a different matter and need personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on potassium-sparing diuretics (like spironolactone), ACE inhibitors (like lisinopril), or angiotensin receptor blockers (like losartan). All three drug types increase the risk of dangerously high blood potassium when combined with this supplement.
If you take any of these, your potassium levels may need monitoring, or your doctor may suggest diet instead of a supplement.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This supplement is mainly for people whose doctor has identified a potassium deficiency and recommended supplementing — not for general use. If you take any blood pressure or heart medication, especially potassium-sparing diuretics, ACE inhibitors, or ARBs, do not start this without clearing it with your own doctor or pharmacist first.
Even people with normal kidney function can run into trouble; those with kidney disease face higher risk. Talk it over with your healthcare provider to make sure this dose is right for you.

Potassium Gluconate 99 mg by Standard Vitamins Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Potassium Gluconate by Standard Vitamins interacts with several blood pressure and heart medications through its potassium content.
The most serious concern is with potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that hold onto potassium), ACE inhibitors, and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) — all of which can raise your potassium levels dangerously high when combined with this supplement.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
All three drug types carry a Moderate severity risk of hyperkalemia (high blood potassium). Potassium-sparing diuretics directly prevent your kidneys from releasing potassium.
ACE inhibitors and ARBs work by blocking a hormone system that normally helps your kidneys excrete potassium — so taking a potassium supplement on top of either one stacks the risk.
Altogether, these interactions span 62 individual medications. Even if you're on a lower dose of any of these drugs, adding a potassium supplement can push your levels into the danger zone, especially if you have kidney disease or reduced kidney function.

Potassium
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Using ACEIs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ACEIs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Arbs)
Using ARBs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ARBs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Concomitant use increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Using potassium-sparing diuretics with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
