HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Potassium Gluconate by Wonder Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: potassium, an essential mineral your body needs for nerve and muscle function, including a steady heartbeat. It's delivered here as potassium gluconate, a chemical form your body can absorb from the tablet.
The tablet also contains several inactive ingredients — calcium carbonate, vegetable cellulose, vegetable stearic acid, vegetable magnesium silicate, and silica — which are fillers, binders, and flow agents used to hold the tablet together and make it easy to swallow.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We hold no effectiveness ratings in our data for potassium supplements. Potassium's role in heart and muscle function is well established as a basic body need, but whether this specific product is effective for particular health goals isn't addressed in the data we have on file.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Potassium from ordinary food is fine and safe. Supplements, though, are different — they can raise your blood potassium to dangerously high levels in some people, especially anyone with kidney disease.
The most common side effects from oral potassium are digestive: abdominal pain, belching, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, and vomiting. Rare but serious effects of high blood potassium include irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), heart block, low blood pressure (hypotension), and mental confusion.
Slow-release tablets have also been linked to bleeding ulcers in the upper small intestine (duodenal ulcers). During pregnancy, dietary potassium is appropriate, but supplements should be used only under medical guidance.
The same goes for breastfeeding — check with your doctor before taking potassium supplements while nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that keep potassium in your body), ACE inhibitors, or ARBs — all three carry a Moderate risk of high blood potassium levels when combined with supplements. Altogether, these interactions span 62 individual medications.
If you're unsure whether your blood pressure or heart medication falls into one of these categories, ask your pharmacist to confirm before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Potassium supplements are appropriate for people whose doctors have identified a genuine deficiency or medical reason to take them. If you take potassium-sparing water pills, ACE inhibitors, or ARBs, you should absolutely talk to your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product — the combination can cause dangerously high blood potassium.
Anyone with kidney disease should also clear it first. Make this conversation part of your medication review before you begin.

Potassium Gluconate by Wonder Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Potassium Gluconate by Wonder Laboratories interacts with three major classes of blood pressure and heart medications through its potassium content.
The most serious concern is high blood potassium levels (hyperkalemia) — a condition that can trigger irregular heartbeats, drops in blood pressure, and heart block. This risk is Moderate in severity and applies to potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that preserve potassium), ACE inhibitors, and ARBs (angiotensin receptor blockers).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Potassium-sparing diuretics pose the most direct risk because they already work by keeping potassium in your body rather than letting your kidneys clear it. Adding a potassium supplement on top of that can push your levels dangerously high.
ACE inhibitors and ARBs work differently — they relax blood vessels — but they also reduce how much potassium your kidneys excrete, so combining them with potassium supplements raises the same hyperkalemia risk, particularly at higher doses.
Although no other medication types are documented to interact with this product in our data, we could not verify whether other drug classes interact with it beyond what's shown here. Before you start taking potassium supplements, check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist — especially if you take any blood pressure or heart medication.

For each ingredient in Potassium Gluconate with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Potassium
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Using ACEIs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ACEIs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Arbs)
Using ARBs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ARBs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Concomitant use increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Using potassium-sparing diuretics with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
