HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Primal Gut Restore by Primal Harvest
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Partial disclosure
Primal Gut Restore has 3 active ingredients. B. longum BB536 is a strain of beneficial bacteria (probiotic) intended to support gut health.
CoreBiome and Xylooligosaccharides are also present — we hold interaction data for them, though CoreBiome's specific role isn't detailed here. The capsules also contain inactive ingredients including pullulan, magnesium stearate, activated charcoal, silicon dioxide, and microcrystalline cellulose.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that B. longum BB536 is effective for the conditions listed — including age-related cognitive decline, hay fever, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, anxiety, asthma, or athletic performance. For each of these, the data shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it.
If you're considering this product for a specific health goal, talk with your pharmacist about what the broader research shows.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B. longum BB536 is generally well tolerated in healthy people. However, caution is needed if you're seriously ill or have a weakened immune system — there have been rare cases of the bacteria entering the bloodstream in critically ill patients, especially premature infants and those recovering from surgery.
On the gastrointestinal side, abdominal discomfort, bloating, and flatulence have been reported rarely. One person reported a dry cough in a clinical trial.
For pregnancy and breastfeeding, B. longum BB536 is rated possibly safe, but safety data are limited. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it while pregnant or nursing.
We don't have safety data on file for CoreBiome or Xylooligosaccharides during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, don't take this product at the same time. Antibiotics can kill the live bacteria in this supplement and reduce its effectiveness.
Ask your pharmacist how long to wait between doses.
