Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Pro-Biotics for Life contains 3 active ingredients: Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactospore (Bacillus coagulans), which are live beneficial bacteria meant to support digestive and gut health, plus Progestive, an ingredient we hold no data on. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients including rice flour, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, maltodextrin, dextrin, vegetable stearate, and silica.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis — though the evidence isn't definitive. Lactospore is possibly effective for constipation and IBS.
For other conditions listed in the research, the evidence is either insufficient or suggests it may not help. The effectiveness of Progestive isn't established in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactospore are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, abdominal pain, and diarrhea can occur when taking these probiotics, though they're uncommon.
Because these products contain live microorganisms, there's a theoretical concern they could cause serious infection in patients who are severely ill, immunocompromised, or have central catheters — but this risk is very low in otherwise healthy people. Lactobacillus acidophilus is considered possibly safe in pregnancy, though data are limited; for lactation, we hold no safety information.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a weakened immune system.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs (Moderate severity) are the key medication type to flag before taking this product. Antibiotics can kill the live organisms in the probiotic, making it less effective.
Separate your antibiotic doses from this supplement — ask your doctor or pharmacist how long to wait between them.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic might help with IBS, constipation, or antibiotic-related diarrhea if you're generally healthy. The main thing to watch: don't take it at the same time as antibiotics — they'll kill the beneficial bacteria.
If you take any medications, including antibiotics, check them with your doctor or pharmacist before you start.
