The Lactobacillus acidophilus strains in this product are possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections.
Streptococcus thermophilus has insufficient evidence to rate it for any of the conditions studied so far. The evidence for the other probiotic strains in the blend isn't established in the data we hold.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Most people don't have problems, though uncommonly, taking these probiotics can cause mild stomach side effects like gas, bloating, abdominal pain, or diarrhea.
Since these are live organisms, there's a theoretical risk—most common in severely ill or immunocompromised patients—of infection spreading to the bloodstream, though this is very rare in otherwise healthy people. For pregnancy, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are rated possibly safe, and Streptococcus thermophilus is also possibly safe.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
