What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Probiotic Complex Daily Need 1 Billion CFUs against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic Complex Daily Need 1 Billion CFUs by GNC Probiotic Complex
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This 8-ingredient probiotic complex delivers 1 billion colony-forming units (CFUs) — live bacterial cells — across multiple Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains plus Streptococcus thermophilus. Three of these strains are checked in our database: two forms of Lactobacillus acidophilus (CUL-60 and CUL-21), Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis.
Three others—Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus salivarius, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus—couldn't be checked against our interaction records. The capsule also contains several inactive ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and titanium dioxide.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
For Lactobacillus acidophilus, the evidence is rated Possibly Effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. For Bifidobacterium bifidum, it's rated Possibly Effective for IBS and Possibly Ineffective for atopic disease; effectiveness for other conditions hasn't been established.
Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis shows Possibly Effective evidence for respiratory tract infections, IBS, and constipation. Streptococcus thermophilus lacks sufficient evidence for any of the conditions studied so far.
For most other claimed uses, the evidence we hold is either insufficient or absent.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
The Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains in this product are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though limited safety data exist for some. Gastrointestinal side effects — bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, and rarely vomiting — are uncommon but documented with probiotic blends.
Since these are live organisms, there is a theoretical concern they could cause infection in people with severely weakened immune systems (such as those on heavy immunosuppression or with indwelling catheters); people in those groups should check with their doctor first. Pregnancy is rated Possibly Safe for Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Streptococcus thermophilus, though data are limited; lactation data aren't on file for most of these strains.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotic drugs, separate them from this probiotic by several hours — antibiotics can kill the live organisms and make the supplement less effective. Discuss the timing with your doctor or pharmacist based on which antibiotic you're using.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic is a reasonable choice if you're looking to support digestive health or manage IBS, though the evidence is modest. The key thing to watch is timing with antibiotics — space them a few hours apart so the antibiotics don't kill off the live cultures.
People with severely compromised immune systems should check with their doctor first. Talk it over with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking antibiotics.

Probiotic Complex Daily Need 1 Billion CFUs by GNC Probiotic Complex Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
GNC Probiotic Complex Daily Need contains Lactobacillus acidophilus (two strains), Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis — all of which interact with antibiotic drugs.
These probiotics are live organisms, and taking them at the same time as antibiotics can kill many of the probiotic cells, reducing the product's effectiveness. Altogether, these interactions span 182 individual medications.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The Moderate severity interaction applies to all three affected probiotic strains: separating the timing of your antibiotics and this supplement by a few hours is the main way to protect both. You'll want to ask your doctor or pharmacist exactly how long to space them apart — it depends on the antibiotic you're taking.
We couldn't check Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus salivarius, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus against our interaction database because we hold no monograph data for them. Streptococcus thermophilus, which is also in the blend, shows no interactions in our records.
Use the medication checker on this page to verify any specific drugs you're on right now.
