What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 8 active ingredients.
  • “Settle & Restore Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label doesn't break down how much of each component you get.
  • “Total Bifido Probiotic Cultures” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label doesn't break down how much of each component you get.
  • “Total Lacto Probiotic Cultures” is listed as a grouped ingredient — the label doesn't break down how much of each component you get.

This product contains 8 active ingredients: six different strains of live probiotic bacteria (Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, Lactobacillus salivarius, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Lactobacillus casei, and Lactobacillus paracasei), plus organic xylooligosaccharides, which is a prebiotic — a type of fiber that feeds the good bacteria in your gut. The capsule itself is made from vegetable material, and the formula also contains organic rice hull concentrate as an inactive ingredient.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: support digestive health and immune function.
  • We looked for evidence on: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Constipation, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Lactose intolerance, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Clostridioides difficile infection — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Also on file: Bifidobacterium Bifidum is rated "Possibly Effective" for Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

The probiotics in this product have the most evidence for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), where they're possibly effective. Lactobacillus acidophilus is also possibly effective for antibiotic-associated diarrhea, bacterial vaginosis, and Helicobacter pylori infection, while Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for respiratory tract infections.

For other conditions — like hay fever, anxiety, and Alzheimer disease — the evidence isn't established enough in our data to rate it. If you're considering this for a specific health concern, your pharmacist can talk through what the evidence shows for your situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 2 of the 2 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 2 of 2.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 2 of 2.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Bifidobacterium bifidum is also generally well tolerated in healthy people, though those with weakened immune systems should check with their doctor first.

Both ingredients can cause uncommon gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, or diarrhea when used. There's a small theoretical concern with any live probiotic that in rare cases it could cause infection in people with severely compromised immunity, but this is not common.

No pregnancy or breastfeeding data is on file for the ingredients in this product — talk with your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing.

Meds to double-check

Moderate interaction found
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 2 of the 2 matched ingredients can interact with medications — Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium Bifidum.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 182 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Antibiotic drugs are the main medication type to double-check before starting this product. Since both Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum can lose effectiveness if taken together with antibiotics, you'll want to time them separately — ask your pharmacist how many hours apart is best.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This is a solid choice if you're looking to support your gut with multiple probiotic strains and a prebiotic. If you're on antibiotics, space out when you take this — the two don't play well together at the same time.

People with weakened immune systems should check with their doctor first. Run your medication list through our tool to be sure.

Probiotics + Prebiotics Settle & Restore by Renew Life: Common Questions

Does Probiotics + Prebiotics Settle & Restore by Renew Life interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Probiotics + Prebiotics Settle & Restore has a known interaction with 182 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Probiotics + Prebiotics Settle & Restore contains 3 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this help my irritable bowel syndrome?
Both Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum in this product are possibly effective for IBS. That means there's some evidence they can help, but it's not conclusive for everyone — it depends on your individual case. Talk with your doctor about whether a probiotic makes sense for you.
What's the prebiotic (xylooligosaccharides) doing in here?
Xylooligosaccharides is a type of fiber that acts as food for the good bacteria in your gut — that's what a prebiotic does. The idea is that it helps the probiotics thrive once they get to your colon.
Can I take this while I'm on an antibiotic?
Not at the same time. Antibiotics can kill off the live probiotic organisms, making this supplement less effective. Space them out — your pharmacist can tell you exactly how many hours apart to take them.
What side effects might I notice?
Most people tolerate this well, but some notice bloating, gas, stomach discomfort, or loose stools when they first start probiotics. These are usually mild and uncommon, and often settle down after a few days.
Is it safe if I have a weakened immune system?
People with weakened immune systems should check with their doctor before starting any probiotic. The live organisms are generally very safe, but in rare cases and in people with severely compromised immunity, there's a small theoretical risk — your doctor can advise what's right for you.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
We don't have pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data on file for these ingredients. Talk with your doctor or midwife about whether this product is right for you during pregnancy or while nursing.
