What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 3 active ingredients.
  • “Blend of Probiotic Bacteria” is a proprietary blend — the label doesn't break down how much of each component you get.

This product lists three active ingredients: a blend of probiotic bacteria, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis HN019, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001, with Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14 named within the probiotic blend. These are live bacteria intended to support the gut, and the blend is the group of strains they belong to.

The inactive ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide. These are non-active fillers and binders that help form the capsule.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: vaginal health and occasional bloating relief.
  • We looked for evidence on: Bacterial vaginosis, Vaginal candidiasis, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), Vaginal flora balance, Abdominal bloating — and 2 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Bacterial vaginosis (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Vaginal candidiasis, Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).

For Lactobacillus acidophilus, the data rates helicobacter pylori, bacterial vaginosis, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) as possibly effective. Atopic disease is rated possibly ineffective, and allergic rhinitis (hay fever) has insufficient reliable evidence to rate.

We hold no effectiveness ratings for Bifidobacterium animalis lactis HN019 or Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001, so how well those strains work for any purpose is not established in the data we hold.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is described in our data as generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though one note says it is often considered low risk and advises checking with your doctor before use. Gastrointestinal effects such as bloating, gas, and diarrhea are reported but described as uncommon.

Rare serious infections have been seen in some patients, mostly attributed to bacteria moving from where they normally live in the body. For pregnancy, Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly safe, and the data does not contain lactation information for it.

We hold no pregnancy or breastfeeding data for the other two strains, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for advice that fits your situation.

Antibiotic Drugs

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
