Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: 650 mg of inositol per capsule. Inositol is a carbohydrate compound your body makes naturally and gets from foods; it plays a role in cell signaling and may influence how your body handles blood sugar and manages hormonal balance.
The capsule itself is made from vegetable cellulose, with cellulose, vegetarian stearate, and silica as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Inositol is possibly effective for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and metabolic syndrome, based on the evidence we hold. For preterm labor, it's also rated possibly effective.
However, the evidence doesn't support its use for anxiety, diabetic nerve damage (neuropathy), or depression—these are rated possibly ineffective.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Inositol is generally well tolerated at common doses. The most common side effects when taken by mouth are mild: diarrhea, gas, and nausea.
In one research study, children taking inositol with omega-3 fatty acids reported cold and allergy symptoms, though this combination effect isn't confirmed. In pregnancy, inositol is rated possibly safe, but safety isn't fully established—use only under medical supervision if you're pregnant or planning pregnancy.
Lactation data isn't on file. If you're breastfeeding or pregnant, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this supplement is right for you.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antidiabetes drugs (including metformin, sulfonylureas, insulin, or any other blood sugar medication), check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product. Inositol lowers blood glucose, and combined with diabetes medication, the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) is moderate.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Inositol may be worth considering if you have PCOS, metabolic syndrome, or preterm labor concerns—but it's not proven for mood or nerve pain. The main thing to watch is if you take diabetes medication: blood sugar could drop too far, so your doctor will need to know.
Check your exact medications and talk it over with your own doctor or pharmacist before you start.
